Soares out

For those wondering about the rule, I believe it's 30% of scheduled regular season games plus one game for the conference tournament. That's 29 for us if I counted correctly. 29 x 30% = 8.7. NCAA always rounds up, so the limit is 9 games.

Soares played in 13 games and played substantially in 12 of those.

She played three seasons of NAIA that were not COVID seasons. Another player attempted an appeal in Soares' situation (missed the COVID season with an injury) and was denied. NCAA has proven to be inflexible on the medical hardship limit unless it's truly close -- if this game were the one that put her over the limit, then maybe getting hurt 2 minutes in could win an appeal. But it wasn't, so I see no pathway to an appeal
Ok so here is where I am lost. If she played 3 years (19-20, 20-21, 21-22), this year (22-23) being her 4th year, wouldn't she still have a COVID year? Wasn't 19-20 the COVID year?
For instance, Ashley played 4 years and got a COVID year. Em and Lex could also get another year.

EDIT: I think I answered my own question as ESPN said she played 4 years at Masters. However, she sat out the 20-21 season with injury. So again, why couldn't she apply for a 4th year?

Really too bad for her and the team. I haven't seen it. How did she get hurt?

The injury bug may have more to do with who takes the crown than any other element. So far TX, ISU, & BU have been hit hard. Who knows who may be next. This is all the more reason to recruit a balanced roster. You need more than one post, more than one point guard etc. because at any moment you could be devastated

She was dominant in many aspects . Post scoring, rebounding, rim defense. She was the the perfect complement to the 4g attack. Bad news for her and the team.

We are Iowa State . Her appeal won’t work. We have a guy on our team that had to sit out a season and a half after going to Georgetown for one week. The rest of the country was transferring and getting eligible after two and three stops. She’s done. Wnba for her

The NCAA said 20-21 will not count against you whether you play or not. She can't apply for a medical hardship for a season that is already not counting against her eligibility.

As I mentioned above, another player already made a similar appeal to the NCAA and was denied. I'll see if I can find that.

Not that it matters but if it was KU MBB it would be approved. LOL

Here are a couple:

Carlie Littlefield played three seasons at Princeton and then transferred to UNC what she's played one season. She was at Princeton for four years, but the Ivy League cancelled all games in 20-21. She and other Ivy Leaguers petitioned for an extra year and were denied.

Maya Dodson spent four years at Stanford, playing three seasons and then opting to sit out 20-21 due to the pandemic. She then transferred to Notre Dame and played 21-22. She petitioned the NCAA for an extra season and was denied. It's notable that she only played 9 games in 19-20 due to injury, but the games she played were at the end of the season so she wasn't eligible for a medical hardship.

When the NCAA turns down Notre Dame you know there is no avenue for this!

Still miffed that Jessica Shepard was able to bail on Nebraska and be immediately eligible at ND back when everyone else had to sit out.

If she wants to keep playing and go through another arduous rehab she should, but if I was her I’d take a long look at calling it a career. With her height and injury history I would want to be able to walk without pain the rest of my life more than I would want to play basketball. She already seemed to not move around very well prior to the injury, I can’t imagine this will help.

Now, the loss of Jordao is even more significant. So much for this being the year that we could match up with frontcourts of other top teams. Fortunately, we have tons of offensive firepower, grit, and team-orientation. It can still be a great year, just more similar to recent years than we had expected.

I think part of the reason she came to ISU was to get a chance to play in the WNBA. She got eyes on her and the WNBA knows she can play if they didn't before. The injury is a setback but if she wants it an opportunity to play in the league is still out there.

Having Rebecca Lobo sing your praises repeatedly on National TV certainly doesn't hurt your exposure.
