Smart TV or Chromecast

Is soundbar now the typical setup? We also have a vintage surround sound system. But it takes up space and we rarely use it.

Will also take into account the location of the connection points for the HDMI for the Roku and probably a Blu-ray player.

How many HDMI ports do people think is enough?

Sorry, but I'm not very up to speed on current electronics. Seems like it changes so fast, too.

There is not an answer to this question, there are never enough. That being said, I regularly use 3, but also don't do any gaming, so the more the better. However, you can always get an HDMI switch if need be...but, if you're getting a 65" TV, I'd hope to **** that they'd have a good number of them.

I guess I never seriously considered a refurbished model. Seems weird that something that new would be in need of repair so soon. Or maybe they're damaged in shipping? Seems like the likelihood of a lemon is high. Why do you feel that it's not a worry?
Yep, I get it. Not everyone would be comfortable with a refurb.
But keep in mind that refub doesn't necessarily mean it had to be repaired. It could have just been returned by the original customer.

From the website:
"Refurbished" covers everything from buyers' remorse returns and products whose defects have been repaired by the pros to damaged packaging and discontinued items. If you can accept their checkered past, refurbs have a lot of love to give.

If you can find a similar deal for a new product, obviously you'd want to go that route.

I'd say you're pretty tech savvy. Especially for an old guy

Depending on where the speakers are, you way want a soundbar. My vizio has rear facing speakers, so I opted for the matching sound bar so the sound would project toward us.

Thanks, but I literally have no idea what about half the things/features listed on the TV's I'm reviewing on Amazon are.

And there seem to be about a half dozen each 60 and 65 inch UHD Vizio TV models available. I'm guessing many are previous year models but how do you know?

And I don't buy a new TV every 10 years. There are bedrooms and kitchen and a condo in Florida with newer TV's. Just want to upgrade for the big main family room and be sure to get something decent that won't be out of date in 2 or 3 years.

FWIW we ended up with a 50" Smart Samsung from Costco and so far has been an excellent choice. Good picture, sound, and streaming has worked well.
