Slowing teams down

Against CU I think ISU can run the base D and be ok. Against MU, I think ISU needs to run a lot of nickel, this SHOULD increase speed and allow for some more man coverages and 'odd' blitzes.

I do not know KSU's O but based on what I thought would happen (KSU meltdown) it may not matter, even ISU may be able to 'show up' and win the game, we will see.

I think they need to run a more pass orientated defense than Cover Two. That can be checked out in NCAA football.

"....should be switching to a 3-3-5 or a 4-2-5 defense." Look at what the other schools are using. Times are a changin' in the Big 12.

The Tampa Two was designed to stop the West Coast offense, which is pretty similar to the spread. If executed correctly, it should work. A 3-3 or 4-2 would get absolutely slaughtered by the run, ESPECIALLY the run out of the spread formation...

Our pass defenders just look so static as the receivers run past them into an open zone. Our rushers never jump up to cut the vision of the kansas or nebraska short qbs. We rarely defend any pass. We just look hopeless on yhird down. We never rise to the occasion. We remain placid.

Our offense is 350 ypg against our defense of 450 ypg - that is 100 yards diff. Yhis is the worse differential since 2003 (140) The offense was poor and defense did not have a chance, yet it was better than what we have this year.

However, at 450 ypg this may be the worst defense in our history. Can anyone find a higher yardage count per game? We are 60 yards worse than last year.

the bend but don't break defense works if you force turnovers and have an offense that can constitenly move the ball effectively with a long field. But when you have no pass rush from your front guys to cause hurries that lead to turnovers - then you can't use this defensive philosophy

Very good point but, interestingly enough, we are one of the best teams in the country in turnover ratio, so that style of play should benefit us.
