As a former Sioux Falls resident, I have the following suggestions:

For Food:
Minerva's
Philips Ave Diner
Mama Enchilada
JL Beers (Burgers and Microbrew)

For Bars:
Copper Lounge (bit more refined)
Wiley's (Younger, fun)
Icon (Hipster)
TommyJacks (Townie)
Stogeez (Cigar)
Falls Landing (Hotel bar on the riverfront)

Thanks for the info. I am bringing my 5 year old up for this game and Monday's. Which place would be enjoyable for me, yet not in appropriate for him?

bTW, we just bought our A&M tickets yesterday

For ethnic food I'd strongly recommend the Kabob place on 41st street (Afghan food) and Golden Bowl right off of Minnesota and 33rd for Chinese. Potbelly for those so inclined at Western and 41st (also a HuHot there).

I'd second Philips Avenue diner for something uniquely Sioux Falls (that's the one in the trolley car?).

As someone who grew up in SF and moved away two years ago ill add some more ideas to Haverhill's suggestions

Food
Carnival Brazilian - Brazillian churasscaria
Grille 26 - Pub/American Fare
Spezia - Classic Italian

CH Patisserie- Deserts, This is a french pastry shop the owner is a former Vegas executive chef that married someone form the area pricey but also incredible

Bars-
Luckys - This has become the trendy place for the mid 20'-30's crowd DT, Pool/Darts
Bucks- This is the 21-25 college get wasted and dance bar, 8-10pm Friday will be $.13 12oz drafts (yes 13 cents)
Crow Bar- Mix of older bikers/college students cheap strong drinks

Also I have to throw a mention out for Ferson which is a new Sioux Falls based Brewery that is making some damn good beer

Feel free to ask any questions and I will do my best to keep up and answer them

What are you looking for somewhere to have a few beers and a decent meal with your son? Thanks for the tickets too

What's the crowd like at Fernson? Pretty packed on Friday nights I'd imagine? Our plan is to go there straight from the game for some pre-dinner beers.

My pleasure....don't need any beers, but like a cool atmosphere with good food and ideally other ISU fans...

The Pour House is a good place to eat and grab a beer. Kids are fine there also.

I originally had a room by the Empire Mall, but I see a lot of suggestions are downtown? So, I should cancel, and get into the more local feel of town vs Jordan Creek type stuff?

I lived in SF for 10 years and just moved back to Iowa.

My 2 favorite resturants in SF:
Bros Brasserie Americano (highly recommend the pork belly)
Sushi Masa (yes, sushi in south dakota, best ive had in the midwest)

Bars:
Little Coalinga (best hole in the wall in SF)
(they have really good food too but you cant bring kids in)
Monks (craft beer bar)
The Attic (all around good bar, serves really good food, and you can bring kids before 9 or 10pm)

I 2nd the Little Coalinga! The have great bar food, and the owner's are awesome people.

Also, Josh4Cy doesn't know what he is talking about! J/K

Dang, it sounds like Sioux Falls has more places to eat than Ames! Sounds awesome!

SF has way more places to eat than Ames. (but is a lot bigger then ames too) It is crazy. In Sioux Falls, if you have a bad experience at a place you never go back because you have so many options. New restaurants have a hard time staying open if they dont have a good grand opening. But if they can nail the first few months they usually stick around
