She as battelled mental illness for some years. Her 17yo son escaped an Irish psychiatrics hospital and committed suicide this past year.
I must be remembering this incident because I thought Sinead was already gone.
Last time I saw her she looked really rough. I thought she was 70ish years old. Turns how she just lead a tought life after her hit.
Delores ORiordan slightly reminded me of her.
Same sad end- She was so loved and on stage she had the audience in the palm of her hand. It is when she came off she felt totally helplessly alone and sad.
I will never forget the massive amount of hate she got for tearing up that picture of the Pope. But guess what...she was 100% right and didn't deserve the hate she got.
You wonder how much that impacted the rest of her life.
She made a bold, peaceful protest statement when the powers that be were whitewashing rampant abuses.
Mainly remember her for the SNL tearing up a picture of the Pope. That was big news lol. Not a lot of things like that made it into the mainstream consciousness back then.
And she was proved 100% right. A friend of mine has a rare genetic disorder directly linked to a priest who fathered hundreds of children. Sadly he and his brother were both victims of abuse while alter boys in the catholic church.
