For those of us who can't afford Chizland, and must DIY. Which do you prefer: Fiber tape or paper?
Why?:skeptical:

Fiber tape is what I prefer except for when I have done inside corner joints and then I wished I had one of those doo-hickeys where you put the mud at the bottom of the pan and had a roll of paper tape in it that you ran throught he mud and stuck it in the corner.

I think I just confused myself.

The thread title sounds like the name of a late night Cinemax show.

Fiber tape, everywhere. Just get a corner drywall knife and you will have good corners. It make the first coat a lot faster.

My question is 2 coats of mud or 3.

Thanks, I had always used fiber before this time and thought I'd try the paper. Seemed to me like the paper worked better in the inside corners (as stated above) and where I had an end butted up to to a side. I had a few blisters with the paper that had to be corrected.

I've really taken my time-this time with the mudding and three thin coat is the way to go. I think I will have very little sanding, which I hate:cool:

When I've used paper tape, I'll wet it before putting it on the wall. It seems to help give you a smoother seam.

Drywall? Get with the times people...

Wood paneling ftw.

Oh God, I have been peeling wood paneling off since we moved in. Our basement is full of it. Or my personal favorite is the wallpaper they layed right on top of the drywall paper. So when you remove it, you lose the drywall paper as well. The people that lived there before should be shot.

You need to get a contraption they call a banjo. You load the paper tape and mud in side of it and go to town. Just used one for the first time a couple months ago. It works really slick, you kinda need to people to use it but you can do a whole room in no time.

My doo-hickey explained much better and actually called a banjo....

I was hoping someone would come on with what I was talking about. Thanks..

CYKID, looks like you use quality paint!

Pittsburgh Ultra from Menards. It is the exact same paint as Olympic at Lowes. Different label. It coats well and obviously stretches. My wife won't use anything else now.
