Senior night

I think all four of them would be obvious "takes" if they want to come back.

Brockington is a monster.

Kalscheur is limited offensively but a high-level defensive stopper. He's played a lot of college basketball and has played more within himself the past couple of weeks. He's likely to be better than Lipsey and Eli King as freshmen and probably better than any replacement you're going to find in the transfer portal, and needing to find *two* replacements for Brockington and Kalscheur is much to ask of TJ.

Kunc has really come on these past few weeks. He's an elite outside shooter.

Conditt doesn't have the highest ceiling for a big man, but good bigs are notoriously hard to find in the portal and in high demand from the blue bloods of the sport. I'm fine with TJ recruiting over him -- or over anybody really, save maybe Hunter -- but he's at least a high-floor option at this point.

So I invite all four back, find out which ones want to, and then plan from there.
But we have 5 seniors.............

I don’t blame guys for wanting to come back for an extra year but now that we have a full season in the books after the covid shortened season I’d like to see more guys move on. A lot of the young players coming in lost a high school season due to covid and now are sitting behind 5th year guys, or even 6th year guys like Bohannon and 7th year guys like Coleman-Lands. It doesn’t seem right.

I’m happy if all our seniors move on and next year the 3 freshman are playing a lot alongside Hunter, Grill, King, our other veteran guys and maybe a scorer from the portal.

It will work out. It always does.

I love all these guys, but considering there are two guards coming in with the next recruiting class, I would imagine I'd want any of the four seniors back before Jackson and Walker.

Lipsey or King slots in for them nicely. We don't have another 6'10" true center incoming.
I love Tre and Jaden, but one or both probably don't fit into the equation too well next year.

Just like any other year, if the FR are good enough, they'll play.

I was wondering if Jaz would consider leaving to play pro ball in his home country after this season, or does he need one more good year at ISU to even be considered for that?

The seniors most likely to return next year would be Gabe and Jaz.

Right, but if a guy like Kalscheur comes back then Joey King and Tamin Lipsey will play but are going to lose minutes to him no matter how you slice it. Take Iowa as an example. Toussaint, Ulis and Perkins all play but quite a bit less than they would with Bohannon back. I’m just not a fan of that.

Maybe I missed it earlier this year but Eric Steyer is listed as a senior too and I know he's not been suited up so is he an injury redshirt this year? I guess the Iowa State directory has his classification as a graduate so I guess he is coming back for another year as the end of the bench walk on?

I think our freshman guards next year would be hard pressed to replicate what Gabe gives us in an elite defender and at times a decent scoring option - a bit inconsistent though. We're spoiled with Hunter this year as not many freshman are going to come in and perform at the level he has.

I think Jaz has the most to gain by coming back. Seems like the game has slowed down for him all year, and he is now comfortable. Could leverage this into some considerable improvement next year, and possibly earn a chance to play pro ball back home.

Wasn't he honored previously? And was asked to come back & help the team as a scout team member? I don't think he planned to suit up this year; I have seen him on the bench but I don't recall seeing him suited up.

I feel like the switch is starting to go on for Jaden. He was not in a great situation last year and he's finally earning some minutes in TJ's system. I'd like to see him stick around and continue to develop. He still gets lost on defense, but I think more reps will help. He has good length and athleticism.

Tre has filled in admirably when called upon and also hit some big shots and free throws. He might not excel and any one thing, but he works hard and is a great teammate. Unfortunately, his ceiling is probably lower than others. That's tough for me to type because he has been a great Cyclone and easy to cheer for.

You have a point. Aside from Brockington, I'm not sure any of them have a future necessarily in pro basketball. Not sure what any of them are majoring in or if they have job prospects. I suppose if any of them do come back it would be for love of the game, or to finish up coursework or something of that nature. If they love the game and they have come to the realization that they are playing at the highest level of competition they ever will, they might come back for one more ride. Think Jordan Bohannon.
Not that its important, but did Jordan Bohannon come back just to play one last injury free year? Knew they would make noise this year? Just loves the college game? Trying to get better for possible future basketball in Europe? (Please, no rude or joking answers). Just wondering because it does seem like he's been there a long time.

Agree, and they can learn things from Gabe versus being thrown into the fire.

Has anybody heard if Senior night is just introductions before the game w/family?
Or is there something afterwards?

CW stated that he will be in Des Moines doing a game watch for Circa Sports. Does anyone recall where this will be held? Was thinking about attending.

It seems to me that this thread should be renamed.. "who returns next year.?"

Jorbo wanted to leave his shoes at Hilton again.
