Seemingly never ending Iowa MBB thread (still going.....)

I never thought I would feel so sorry for Peter Jok or feel like McCabe was a freaking hero for telling those fans to go suck a fat one, but I do.

Maybe if those neanderthals would go get a life rather than living vicariously through the Hawks, they would not be so harsh about a college kid trying to play through injuries and survive four years under the direction of a raving lunatic.

The best part about it is that they DON'T EVEN SHOW UP FOR GAMES. It can't be stated enough that hok fan is pretty low on the fan totem pole.

I was listening to something about the Big Ten...and it got me thinking that instead of Legends and Leaders or East and West, the Big Ten is actually divided this way: Michigan, OSU, Michigan State, Maryland, and Rutgers in the "reality" division. Everyone else is in the "Living in the Past" Division.

Jok is an elite shooter even by NBA standards. There are most certainly not a surplus of NBA players with his shooting ability.

And it's pretty comical that your (inaccurate) reasoning actually applies to Morris moreso than Jok. Morris doesn't possess any elite traits. Average athlete, average shooter, average defender, not a particularly adept passer. I guess he's really good at not turning it over, though? I'm sure that will get him on an All-Star team someday.

If Tyrus - the best shooter to play in the state of Iowa in the last decade - McGee couldn't find a spot in the NBA, what makes you think Jok will?

Doesn't Jok speak several languages? That will be his second most useful skill after his shooting if he wants to have a pro career.

McGee was a poor athlete and was barely six feet tall. Jok is a much better athlete and is 6'6". What a truly terrible comparison.

We have a winner.
Many the "future is bright" quotes I've seen with this team remind me of the Woody/Gessell class. You put NCAA expectations on the team immediately based on a NIT team and when they don't reach those in a couple of years they are ready to restart with new hope. Leading to the "we'll be better off when Marble/White/Utohff/Gessel leave" threads starting their Junior year's.

We'll see if the same thing will happen with this Pesml/Cook/Bohannon class but very similar start. Only consistent here is Fran and his mad style.
BTW I expect the same result.

Absolutely this. It's very similar to the Woody/Gesell freshman year. The future is always "bright", right up until the point that it isn't, and then they eat their own, spit out the bones, and declare the next wave of freshman to be the saviors.

How does a poor athlete make a living on shooting 25 foot jumpers running full speed away from the basket, and releasing it at the height of his jump? Yeah, he was short, but he could make a shot out of anything.

Anybody see the Big 12 refs just screw over Michigan? They stole the inbounds pass for the win but of course the refs had to stop everything so they could add a couple tenths back on the clock.

"I hate how you guys took on POS players that were kicked off of teams for good reasons to build what you have now. Iowa should be taking over it's rightful place once again going forward. Enjoy your last chance at a long run next week. Back to reality with Fred being gone and not lowering his standards to accommodating players kicked off at times not once but even twice from other programs and molding/shaping rules/regs to accommodate said cast off. The story from a year or 2 ago about residences in an apartment building where a few of said cast offs were housed that they were to contact Fred first over the Police was freaking comical."

Pop quiz. A program in this state signed a convicted felon. Which school did this?

This would certainly apply to your assessment of Jok as an NBA shooter. He's not used to being defended like he will there, either. Plus he couldn't defend against a folding chair.

"Didn't Iowa & Iowa State play this year? I thought so, obviously the better team won. If Iowa could play their schedule Iowa would have dome just as good or better."

Just like Indiana is better than KU. If Indiana would have had the luxury of playing in the Big 12, they wouldn't have lost a single conference game.
