Seemingly never ending Iowa MBB thread (still going.....)

Is there anything more predictable than Iowa losing first game in the Big 10 tourney? Oh well, they can be well rested for another historic NIT run. Another NIT banner will proudly be hanging in Carver.

I like how Hawk fans justify everything by bringing up the Lick years.
Yeah, Lick is the best thing that ever happened to Fran. Lick's shadow has given him years and years of shade from the spotlight.
Fran's basically been treading water for the last few years, but next to the drowned man he looks like Michael Phelps

I just don't see how they don't take Illinois State at this point. Everyone else has had their chances this year.

Wait for bid stealers. Still plenty of time. Could be Indiana pulls it together, Houston wins the AAC, who knows. Illinois State has to hope everyone else on that list loses. Georgia and Cal still have big opportunities for wins.

Big NIT runs springboard teams to the top of the college basketball world, happens all the time.

And if you believe that......

It springboarded Iowa into the play in game the next year, meanwhile teams that were in the NIT with them like Baylor and Virginia were gettting #1 seeds and making Elite 8's the following years.

...you're a writer for the Cedar Rapids Gazette.

2013 Top Sports stories: Iowa's run to the NIT Final trumps ISU getting to the 2nd round of the NCAA tourney.

Because everyone knows that winning games in the tournament that you're in because you aren't good enough for the NCAA tournament, is a bigger deal than having success in the actual NCAA tourney.

I wouldn't be shocked if Iowa's win over ISU that season was on the list as well.

The Big 10 has had over twice the amount of final four teams in the last five years than the Big 12.

And how many national titles? Unless you win that who the hell cares? How far you actually get past the first round is a crap shoot anyway. How far could ISU have gotten with Kane and Ejim if they didn't have to play the national champion in the Sweet 16? Same with Iowa last year. Arguing conference dominance in the NCAA tourney is silly.

But guys, remember how bad Licklitter was a decade ago?! I'll take Fran and his not getting to the tourney or winning Big Ten tourney games any day over Lick not getting to the tourney or winning Big Ten tourney games!

At least Fran isn't going to play his not very talented kids.

A decent portion of their fanbase thought they were playing for a national championship or the runner up. There were Iowa fans who were insulted when people said they're playing for #50-69th place that year.

I remember FB and such blowing up from old high school/college friends and you would have thought anybody else cared about it.

Is this serious? I have never seen a fan base talk about "How tough" their conference more than ISU fans, both in football or basketball.

I wouldn't call it riding the coat tails in football for ISU. It's just been harsh reality. Hope
This must be what people felt like when they watched the Big 12 North play football those years when ISU was 'competing' for division titles.

Yeah. Pretty much.
At least Iowa State was in the hunt though. I don't know what the heck Iowa is doing in this turd conference of theirs.

Hassell is a complete clown. They think just because as freshman they are in the NIT that they will all improve exponentially and be in the Final 4 in a couple years. It doesnt quite work that way.

You'd think they'd learn from the last time they wanted the NIT for experience for their young team to go a long way in the NCAA tourney the following years.

ISU was in the 'hunt' like Elmer Fudd hunts. They were marginal but still found a way to be in contention and then pulled off major choke jobs even by ISU football standards.
