There's a difference between saying you hope your team wins and saying you have hope for the future. Even a fifth grader knows that

Why would a fan of a team not have hope for their team? I would hope, that you have hope for your favorite teams. That is what being a fan is.

They probably won't, they don't play in a weak conference and have some tough opponents coming up

I know Iowa State doesn't play in a weak conference, they play in a good conference. I know they have three tough games coming up. I just hope they win those three games.

That is true and very impressive for sure, but I would say Iowa's run of making the NCAA tournament 10 of 11 times and 13 of 15 times with three different coaches including one final four, two elite eights and four sweet sixteens is even more impressive.
