Seemingly never ending Iowa MBB thread (still going.....)

I never felt this was going to be a NCAA year. I also didn't think we would miss the NIT which is looking likely.

I think with attrition if Fran can bring in a good PG to backup Jordan that would also allow Jordan to slide to the 2 guard at times, they should be back to the NCAA next year.

PG - Bohannon backup transfer PG
SG - Moss backup Jordan + Ellington
SF - Baer backup Moss
Front court - Cook & Pemsl - backups Wagner, Garza

You were very much in the minority, then.

What makes you think Fran 1) has the ability to bring in a quality transfer PG, and 2) would even attempt to, with his kid coming in?

Wouldn't you want a transfer PG to be better than Bohannon?

Your hopes are on getting a PG worse than Bohannon?

I think Bohannon proved he could play at this level, proved many on this board wrong btw...but it's also true that if he plays heavy minutes at point for 4 years there will be some lost potential there because he is limited as a true pg compared to the unknown talent that may be out there. I'm guessing that's what you meant by him sliding to the 2 anyway.

Not sure I agree with your assessment that the current core coming back gets them to NCAA status. Won't be surprised if they are a bubble team but a .500 squad losing its top scorer and rebounder is rarely going to be projected as a tourney team. It could happen, but I wouldn't expect it. I don't expect ISU to make the NCAA next year even with Wiggington being the highest rated recruit since Fizer.

I honestly don't see how Iowa is even a bubble team next year. I just don't see the B1G being this bad next year and I really don't know how Iowa replaces Jok's presence on the court. I don't think Hawk fans realize how low the ceiling is for Jorbo, Ellingson, & Baer. I would lump Pemsl in there but if he can develop an outside shot or even a mid range game he could end up being a nice player. Cook has a lot of room for growth but Baer is nothing more than a hustle guy. Don't get me wrong, hustle guys are great to have but shouldn't be playing the minutes that Baer is getting if your staff has recruited worth a ****. Young doesn't mean future success...

I don't consider an under six foot player who can't crack 35% from the field as "proven he can play at this level".

I just wanted to take a minute to apologize to fellow Cyclone fans about some of my Iowa posts. I watched them against Illinois and they are really bad, no excuse to get swept by such a scrub team like Illinois.

Bohannon can shoot decent but looks really small for a point guard in a Power 5 conference. Outside of Jok they dont look to have alot of talent and Im not sure whos going to be able to create their own shot next year.

They look to me like a team with alot of role players starting when they shouldnt be. Cook has alot of raw talent, but his basketball IQ is severly lacking and I would say he should be alot better than he has been by going from his ranking.

I like the effort Pemsl and Baer give but you guys were right in that they probably wont get alot better than what they are now. Ellingson, Williams, and Moss are just bad at basketball. I see them around .500 if they are lucky next year, the Big 10 isnt going to suck this bad forever.

Oh, and one last thing, whats with Fran and these stupid rotations? Someone needs to tell him that just because you have 13 guys that doesnt mean all of them should play. I think thats more an indication of how bad the guys in front of them are rather than they have alot of solid depth.

I think he could be pretty good as a spot up off the ball shooter. He shoots the 3 ball well, especially when he's open in rhythm.

But they have a serious ceiling on their team if he's the PG with the ball in his hands the entire 4 years he's there. Partly because it will set him up to have to guard some pretty lethal point guards.

This has been a knock on Fran for a long time, and I don't understand why he doesn't get grilled on it more.

Well we all know HN is full of the biggest morons on Earth.

Reputable link?

I'd say a poll on a message board populated by Hawk fans is a decent source of information, when asking a question about the expectations of Hawk Fans. I won't even debate your assertion that the people there are morons. I mean, if anyone thought the Hawks were an NCAA tournament team, this year, I certainly can't dispute any claims to their "moron-inity."

WOOOOOOF WOOOOOOF. OMG that is hilarious if hoks hadn't have won the super bowl this year against us they would be pizzing their pants in full freak out mode. That is a hilarious lineup and it's even funnier that I hear a lot of "but they have amazing chemistry and they like each other that will make them winners" WAKE THE FREAK UP this is 2017 not 1959 Hickory Hoosiers.

A college basketball player shoots well when he's in rhythm and open? He must be big time!
