Seemingly never ending Iowa MBB thread (still going.....)

He does seem to roll around on the floor looking like someone shot him more than anyone I've seen (then return 2 minutes later). However, there's obviously something really wrong with him now. Seems like it would have been a good idea to let it go an extra week and hope to salvage something from the season. They're not winning much without him at 100%.

They're going to be even worse next year when he's gone. Fran is lucky he got hurt this summer or he probably would be playing overseas now

I feel bad for Jok. He wasn't allowed to go to his school of choice and he's now injured in his senior year. I hate Iowa but I don't wish ill will on players. Particularly health wise.

No idea why Fran played him so much.

I agree. It will be interesting how the season unfolds. They dont have a great relationship to begin with.

Life without Jok is not looking good whatsoever for Iowa.

What was his school of choice? I don't remember this story...

It really is a shame.

Fran's gotten very lucky in his time at Iowa. A lot of recruits over-performing, no 2014 Georges level injuries, no early departures, and many good local guys falling in his lap.

Can't really tell if this is sarcasm or not. It was THE Iowa State University Cyclones.
I remember that we wanted him...I don't remember him "not being allowed to attend the school of his choice". Not allowed by whom? Note - I wasn't on CF back then, so if this was discussed ad nauseum at the time, I was out of the loop. :)

Moore was the sixth coach subject to possible severe punishment but he did not cooperate with the NCAA investigation. Hoiberg removed Moore of association with the men's basketball program upon discovering his recruiting violations and stopped recruiting Jok and Abrahamson. Moore was found to have sent 160 impermissible texts and 12 improper phone calls to the players, formerly on an AAU team he had coached. Jok is now at Iowa, and Abrahamson is at Northwestern.

We had to stop recruiting him.

You really have to question Fran's decisions with Jok. He knew that he wasn't even close to healthy but you play him 32 minutes? Clearly they were a better team without him on the court last night but that's not even the point. Pete has a future to think about and as a head coach it is your responsibility to take care of your guys, not ride them like a rented mule for your own benefit. For Pete's sake (pun intended) I hope the kid can get healthy and has a fair shot of getting drafted, he deserves it. I'll call my shot now, Jok will end up calling it a season to get healthy and I can't say I blame him. It's not like he has a great relationship with Fran to begin with.

I didn't know Seth Davis left CBS Sports. Seems like quite a step down to head to the BTN.

Anyway, Iowa really doesn't have much of a chance in any game if Jok's back continues to be an issue. He could barely move at times out there tonight.

He was a B1G homer in his projections anyway so now he's accurately and easily identified at least.

How many shots has Bohannon taken this year? It seems he takes lots of shot for a freshman PG

28mpg, 33%FG, 35% 3pt, 89% FT, 2.3 rpg, 4.9 apg, .7 steals, 2.3 TO

Honestly not as horrible as I'd have thought, trending down in B1G play obviously. The FG% is bad. Attempts 8.3 shots a game to make 2.8 a game.

I love this post from Hawkeye Report:

"Don't get me wrong Fran has had some success stories (woody, Olaseni, Gessell, and others). But his recent recruits have not improved at all and makes me wonder if those guys were misses or if its Frans program?"

Holy crap, he considers Woody and Gesell to be success stories! Are you kidding me? Fran took 4 star players and turned them into 3 star players with those two. If I were a hawkeye fan, (thank the Lord I'm not) Woody and Gesell are not the guys I would point to for proof of Fran's coaching ability.

I'm still around. They are just awful without Jok. Their freshman seem to be getting worse, Cook looks like a major bust compared to his rankings, now Fran is up to playing 13 players. It looked like they had turned the corner by beating Purdue a couple weeks ago. This year they cant even make it to February before hitting a wall.

Without Jok their best all around player is a former walk-on. Fran has got some serious issues going on in Iowa City right now.

I think a lot of ISU fans are dumb but I'll just leave this here...

I am just wanting to hear everyone's opinion on the best/worst case scenario for the Hawks the next 5 or so years. I think it is clear that our freshman have been scouted and adjustments have been made. The good ones find a way to overcome this and are better for it. So, with the current roster and incoming recruits what is the realistic ceiling/floor?

Personally, I think after a few transfers clear up playing time for recruits and the core matures a bit we could be looking at a very dangerous team. I think the ceiling would be multiple Big Ten regular season championships and an elite 8/final 4 run. For this to happen we will need to learn to close out games, of course, which remains to be seen. We NEED a go to guy who can hit a big shot. Iowa has been desperate for a cold blooded finisher.

He must be assuming that Fran resigns and the new guy brings in the next Ray Allen.
