Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Lol, I mean I hated McCabe but yeah I don't know. He did seem pretty 'hatable.' But that wouldn't necessarily be a reason for a team to start collapsing.

Well the team not getting along and him playing 15+ mpg could cause a collapse. He shot 34% from 3 on the season but only 28% during the collapse

He played way too much. Way too much. I think the problem could've had more to do with Fran valuing his seniors other than Dev a little too much. McCabe ****** me off so badly

He is an all-time great at Iowa. Probably didn't play enough.

I'll just leave this here so that you fellas can read it over one more time.
You would think the team would rally around their coach. After all, they are the ones actually playing. Don't get me wrong, cancer sucks and I'm positive everyone felt terrible for Fran and his family during that whole thing, but the players needed to grab their nuts and play basketball and the assistants needed to earn their paycheck.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

You always want to be a number 1 seed but the fact is that some day a #1 will go down in the first round. And nothing short of a national title could remove that stigma. That would be some serious stench.

That said Iowa has pretty much kicked butt in the Big 10 and have earned their ranking.
At Maryland will be their big test, Maryland is long, probably the best team Iowa will play in the regular season this year.

In terms of their schedule short of playing Maryland home and home, they did/will play the who's who in the Big 10 this year. They only get Rutgers, Minnesota, Illinois 1 time. MSU, Purdue, Michigan, Indiana all twice

Indiana on the other hand, their schedule is a joke.. If I am seeing things correctly they only play Purdue 1 time? How the heck does that happen?

Iowa has played a solid basketball schedule this year, and all those seniors are paying dividends.
Also Fran has toned down his rhetoric and is much calmer, still think that reflects positively on his team.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

I don't think Iowa was ever a top 10 team that year, but were a solid top 25 team up till that point. The wheels completely fell off that team though. That collapse was very reminiscent to the team Iowa had in the early 2000's before Recker got hurt. If Recker stays healthy that year, I think Iowa could have done a lot of damage. Instead they needed to win the B1G tournament just to make it to the dance.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Wait, you're actually saying that's the reason they went in the tank? For real?

What is so absurd about it? If I ever have a son get diagnosed with cancer I would imagine that my job performance would suffer because of it. I'd probably be more than a little sidetracked.

Maryland is good, they have good players. But just based on resume to date, Michigan State is a much stronger team (as is Purdue). Pomeroy rankings also have MSU and Purdue superior to Maryland, though not by much. Maryland has exactly 0 (that is zero) wins over Top 50 RPI teams this year. They lost competitive games at UNC, @MSU and @Michigan. But their best win of the year is over who UConn, or Ohio State? Perhaps at Wisconsin. Iowa may very well lose to Maryland, but I think Iowa State and Michigan State are both superior teams to the Terps.

I would agree with the comments on Fran's demeanor and saving his outbursts for in the locker room or occasionally toward the refs. Seems to be a better fit for both the team and with the referees.

Maybe Maryland is a bit of a paper tiger, but like Iowa State I think they have 5 guys who average double figures, so it seems it would be difficult to key on 1 guy. (Ironically latest Ken Pom has them 1 spot ahead of ISU)

Still blows my mind 2 Rivals like Indiana and Purdue do not play a home and home every year.
Just like Iowa should play Bucky and Goldy home and home every year in hoops..

That is the downside of the mega conferences I guess.

Are you an Iowa fan or ISU fan?

ISU through and through. That doesn't mean I'm insane. A head coach's son getting diagnosed with cancer is more than a little distraction. Show some class.

What have I done to not show class?

There are a lot of new posters around here that are "ISU fans" that defend Iowa any chance they can get. You called me out saying Jok was the next Iowa player I was wrong about so I am curious what your old user name was since you've obviously been around here a while.

What did you say about Jok? The only thing I remember is you saying Thomas is better than Jok I think. I just figured your thing was trolling Hok fan.

Well I said Jok sucked his first two years because he did. Thomas is a better defender/shooter. Jok is a better scorer. Jok's playing really well right now though

You asked me if I'm a Hawk fan after I simply stated that a head coach's son battling cancer would be a major distraction. I think that's common sense. Even suggesting that it shouldn't have been a distraction is absurd. Now you didn't suggest it, but to question my fandom because of what I said is dumb. Any fan of any team should realize how a situation like that would be as difficult as it could possibly get for a head coach.

The Jok thing... I've seen you badmouth him, and I've seen other posters give you crap about it in a recent thread. Not sure which one it was.

Jok has always shown that he had a lot of ability. I think it was pretty obvious that his biggest issues were mental. I figured if he could piece the game together mentally that he would start to be an impact player. He's playing with confidence right now, and he's turning a corner. It's not unusual for that process to take a couple years. He needed to figure out what kind of consistent effort it takes to play at a high level night in and night out. His defense was pretty bad his first couple years, but it's significantly better this season. Funny how his offensive numbers are getting better at the same time his defense has improved. I'm sure his coach's are pointing that out to him.

I question your fandom because everything you've posted has been defending Iowa and you even have a post where you to refer to ISU as "they". I just quoted the last thing you said, it had nothing to do with your post on Fran's son.

You said Jok would be the next Iowa player I was wrong about, like I've been wrong before about one previously. So I'll ask again, what was your last user name?

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Hard to say. One thing is for sure, this topic seems to be a pretty big deal to you right now. The success Iowa is having right now sure seems to have you worked up, especially when you consider you have a great team in Ames to follow.
Lol is that why countless Hok fans signed up on an ISU forum to comment non stop? Sad sad sad
