When does the new kids get into town for summer football. The main reason I ask is that with Sedrick Johnson ability to play both Football and Basketball I figured he would be in state gym with all of the other new guys in town as well and if anyone had seen how good he looks on the basketball court. I've seen some videos of him playing ball just wondering if anyone seen him up close.

Considering the guy's on a football scholarship I'd assume football workouts get first, second, and third priority over anything that might happen on the basketball court, whether at State Gym or in the Cap League. But I guess that's only one man's opinion (probably Chizik's as well...)

jodysoma: what is the avatar pic from? can you attach it to a message so we can read the caption?

The second summer session started Monday and Sedrick Johnson is registered. So I assume that he's in town now.

I don't have the picture on my computer here at work so I don't think I can attach without having that file. But what is from is when nebraska guy ran into our punter and got a pentily for it. I think it is a classic picture.

I dont want Sedrick to play bball. If he gets injured during that Ill be pissed not to see him on the field.

I remember reading somewhere that Sed is free to play basketball so long as his football and student responsibilites are fulfilled.

I would assume part of the draw to isu was to let him play both. I'm all for it, perhaps we could draw more athletes that would like to try dual sports.

Sed (and all the rest of the new guys) are here. He told us the other night that he is planning on playing both sports, but right now he has class and fb workouts, so doesn't really have time to play bball with the guys. If you see him, you can tell who he is because he has the state of Texas cut into the back of his hair:smile:

Get a barber and trim it to the state of IOWA!

I'm happy that it was put to Sed in this way. Hurdles to jump over. Fair enough, it seems to me.

But, boy, I don't see how athletes are able to do this these days, participate in two sports. Back in the '80s, talking one day with former eiu DB Tracy Crocker, he estimated during the season that he and teammates each put in 55 hours a week devoted to team activities of one sort or another.

While Sed is involved with summer workouts, pre-season camp, and a long season lasting through New Year's Day (yeah, I'm expecting that one day soon), how in the world will he be able to develop Big 12 level basketball skills?

Maybe he's a special athlete who possesses the talent to transition easily to the court, but, man, what a tough thing that will be to do. I wish him well. If Sed is able to do both, he's gonna be one worn out young man.

I don't believe anybody is expecting him to go out and there and put up All Big XII type numbers. What he would definitely bring is another athletic body. That, if nothing else, would make for a good guy for the scout team. If he can also go out and give us some solid minutes, that would also be great.

Either way, I agree with your basic premise. He's going to be running himself ragged doing both sports AND trying to keep up with schoolwork. I admire his determination!

tyrelle pryor was the best highschool football player in the nation and a 4 star basketball player, i wonder if he plays both sports for ohio state

I remember seeing a mock NBA draft for a couple years down the road, I can't remember the exact year, but they had Pryor as a top 20 draft pick, for the NBA.
