Section 12 - 30 years at $100

We will have this same argument approx 112 more times between now and the beginning of football. Welcome to dead time.

Can someone get arrested already? Then we have something else to talk about. KIDDING! KIDDING!:wink::wink:

I'll tell you who I am...I am a 20 year donor/fan who has moved seats 6 times in that 20 years and you know what? It didn't make a lick of difference where I sat. The people around me were always Cyclone fans and I got to know all of them very well during the course of every season. Point being that you have a great time wherever you sit.

I used to sit with a group of friends, but last year I upped my donation to $1500 because I am buying into what Pollard is selling. Because of my higher donation, I was moved away from my group of friends and sat in a section by myself. Still didn't matter. Had a great time everygame and the people around me became my buddies. This year I upped to $2500 and also purchased a spare ticket. I have no idea what seat I will be in and it doesn't matter because I know I will have a good view of the field and will get to know the folks around me as I always have.

Switching seats is not as big of a deal as some want to make it.

Great post...... I'm in the same boat. I have moved several times. Used to buy individual hillsides when the tykes were little, then bought non-donor seats, then gave $500 and got better seats and after a couple of years I moved to $1000 and better seats.... a couple years later and it was $1500 and still better seats and now I have been Captains for a couple years and have even more Cyclone friends from my seats I have had for the past couple of years. Guess what, I asked for new seats this year, so I'll probably move again. Moving is not that big of deal and has many positives.

As some have said, there are no BAD seats and you're always surrounded by great Cyclone fans no matter where you sit. What could be a better way to spend half a dozen Saturdays???

Here is the real question:

(1) Pollard has raised prices. I don't care if he raised ticket prices and left donations the same, raised required donations and left ticket prices the same, or some of one and some of the other. It doesn't matter. Prices have gone up.

(2) Economics 101 says with higher prices, Jamie will sell fewer tickets. I have no doubt this is true. I personally know 8 season ticket holders who have decided not to renew and 4 more who are renewing unhappily because they cannot or do not want to increase their donation and are being moved to worse seats. You'll also recall that there was a giant ticker on Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - Iowa State Cyclones Sports at this time last year showing season ticket sales, and counting up to the record. That ticker is conspicuously absent this year.

The question is: will fewer fans at higher prices result in more revenue, less revenue, or the same revenue? This is Pollard's gamble....and make no mistake, it is a gamble.

Of course it is a gamble. But there may be some people that have been making a $500 donation but been grandfathered out by others like yourself who have been able to maintain their seats with only a $250 donation. Remember that ONE donation can cover up to FOUR season tickets. I don't necessarily think it is fair for the $500 donor to be left in poorer seats because Jaime doesn't want to offend you by raising donor levels.

Last year was a big push to get those who wanted to maintain their seats to do so by booking early. Now he is changing donation levels. This will open up more seats. If Jaime gets a flood of $250 donors and a lack of $500 donors, he can choose to seat those with the highest priority points in the poorer $500 seats, even though they are only a $250 donor. Believe me, they won't sit empty. He will just move them up the food chain. If you are a 30 year donor, I would just make the $250 donation and take a chance. Maybe just maybe you might move a little higher in the same section. But you do have priority points. I wouldn't cut off my nose to spite my face. But it is your call. Just quit complaining. The high price of gas really stinks. Should I start a thread about the increased price of fuel and groceries and how it is fueling inflation?

Can people just have some respect for each other? That is part of what being a Cyclone is about - not treating people like garbage.

I thought thats what CF was about

I mean Students vs Alum,
Donors vs Non or not renewing Donors
CA vs Non-CA
McCarney vs Chizik
LE/WM vs McDermont

Kansas and Missouri managed to make teams that win a few games without 100% increases in required donations that drove loyal fans and long term ticket holders out of their seats or out of the stadium completely.

They have had a GREAT last 30 years...no doubt about it. We should all copy their history over the last 30 years and maybe in 30 more we too can compete for the big12 title.

we had amazing crowds last season. JTS was nearly full for each game. How are we supposed to raise money if we dont raise prices? We cant sell that many more tickets per game due to stadium size. So unless you want to start going after other sports like womens bball (which I think is a good idea), you have to keep prices going up on football and mens bball.

If you read my post - which you obviously didn't - you would see that I am not complaining.

I am merely posting that Jamie is taking a questionable gamble. He wants to maximize revenue. Which will do it - more fans at lower prices, or fewer fans at higher prices? I think he could have experimented with a smaller increase this year, and used the results to determine how much of an increase - if any - he should apply next year. A 100% increase is huge and if it keeps enough fans away it's going to result in less revenue, not more. The fact that the ticket renewal date has come and gone without any announcement from Jamie or any news on the website is an indication that the results may not coming in as he had hoped. If we had met or exceeded last year's ticket renewals by April 1, I'm pretty sure there would have been a press release bragging about that fact.

Also have to recognize the future value that gamble will have. If he has less people paying more money right now, they're probably in it for the long run whether winning or losing happens. However, if we start winning in bunches, people are going to be coming back to get tickets at the higher price, and there will be availability of those tickets from the people who didn't renew.

Combine the tickets for one less game at the same price we paid last year ($350), add a donation to the National Cyclone Club, and probably $4.00 gas. I would be spending $100+ per weekend, not counting the ticket and the donation. Sorry, but I have been priced out! Held season tickets for 7 years. Attended games over the past 12.

As it has been mentioned, there are some cheaper options for tickets. Evidently some of you can not see yourself in a little bit cheaper seat. Buy the Cy's Pack. Pocket the money. Go to the games. You will have a little bit extra money for gas, spend less money than the year before and still enjoy the games.

You are NOT priced out. It's just that you want to sit in premium seats or not go at all. The upside is that the new donors who are willing to pay will get the chance at better and better seats.

ding ding ding!!! exactly what i'm doing. keeping my donation level the same and moving to the hillsides. will cost me less money overall, and i still get to be a part of the experience. i realize everyone is different about how to handle things, but to completely forgo buying any tickets at all because you have to pay more for your current seats is ridiculous. come sit on the hill with me-i can almost guarantee you just as much fun as you had before.
