what is this civil war you speak of? Do you mean the war of northern aggression?

Slowly, the big XII is working on it. We traded 2 TX schools (push) and one slave state (MO) for one non slave (WV).

One thing I get a kick out of, currently Virginia is deemed all 'genteel' and WV is all hillbilly, but back then, West Virginia formed to get away from the slave holding Virginia.

My first thought after looking at the photo was...Look at all these sleezeballs that want to sell me a used car.

Why is it that I read this and immediately the Stivers Ford jingle popped into my head? DAMN THOSE COMMERCIALS!!!!!!!!!!!!:realmad:

Well, they certainly dress like a group of milionaires. :nah:

That's what I'm thinking. Seriously, how hard is it to wear a nice shirt and jacket like Spurrier. You have Eugene wearing warm ups and Muschamp wearing a leather suit jacket. Is he in the Jersey Mob? Seriously.

Eugene does get a pass since his left arm is in a sling. Must have injured his elbow putting helmets in line.

My high school history teacher was from Mississippi and graduated from Ol' Miss. Had the state flag in his room and defended it one time of why he had it up while we were talking about the Civil War. He said it had nothing to do with slavery but somewhat of a pride thing for southerners. He is probably one of the smartest people I have ever met and is no hick nor is he racist.

A lot of them don't mean it to be a symbol of racism/slavery, but it is.

Buddhists used to use the Swastika as a symbol for harmony. Try displaying a swastika and it not being wildly offensive.

Even if you don't mean the Rebel to be offensive, it still is, because no matter your intentions, it was still the flag of a nation that was fighting for it's right to own other human beings. You cannot separate that from the Confederacy. If the North had said "you can keep your slaves", there never would have been a Civil War. People love to rewrite history on this and try to act like it wasn't about slavery, and certainly there were racists in the north and people who were reluctant to abolish it (like Lincoln), but the South seceeded, first and foremost because they knew their "right" to own slaves was going to die.

Yea, I feel like at one point the historical view was over-simplified, but we've now almost swung too far the other way to under-simplified.

Exactly.

When we were kids it was all unicorns and puppy dogs and everyone in the North loved the slaves and wanted them all to be set free and prosper.

Then there was the whole phase of "Lincoln was a raving racist and no one in the North cared about the Slaves, they were just trying to hold those poor Southerners down and enforce their way of life" crap.

Reality is somewhere in the middle, and the truth is that there would have been no Civil War if the North would have continued to tolerate Southern slavery.
