I was really impressed with Sherron tonight. Everyone knew that these 2 games were his chance to shine, but he very much played within the game and didn't force at all. He could have gone out chucking up shots, but he didn't. He played within the game and played MUCH better defense than during the exhibition. I don't know what it will mean when Nader ant Matt get back, but SDW played solid defense (surprisingly) and didn't play out of the system on offense, and I'm really proud of him for that.

He played much better D tonight than last weeks game. He should be a nice rotation player this year

Very good game SDW. 18 minutes and zero turnovers is the key, plus the focus on defense and not forcing anything. If he can play plus defense, he'll continue to play some.

not a lot of points or great passes, but he did play solid defense and he did not jack up wild shots or turn the ball over, so he did the things he needed to. I also thought there were a couple of 3's that he could have taken.

I noticed that after Jones refused to pass the ball for the second time on the break that he found himself on the bench for the rest of the half. He is really talented, but individual plays are not what make ISU great.

It was actually after he picked up his second foul that he spent the rest of the half on the bench.

BDJ played fine, the coaches will clean up what they didn't like. He ended up with 20-11-4.

He could crave out a nice little defensive niche of minutes if he keeps it up. He's got the long arms, quick feet and bounce to do some nice things.

Thought he actually missed a few opportunities offensively. Few threes that came to him in rythem he passes on. Have to score if you wanna play guard.

You mean when he went to the bench with two fouls?

I liked what I saw from SDW. Ideally he would have been more assertive on offense, but he played good Hoiball out there by keeping the ball moving while also putting some pressure on the defense. Looked like a competent player on both ends, with hints that he could be more. There are some things he is naturally better at than Naz and Thomas, although I think the other two still pretty far ahead.

In terms of SDW's PT, I think the biggest thing from tonight was the lack of minutes for Custer. Just one game, of course.

I think Fred played his starters heavy minutes to get prepared for what should be a tough game on Monday, especially in the back court. Plus Oakland hung tough for most of the game. Would like to have seen more of Custer, maybe playing some with Monte. Clearly we need Morris on the floor, he was outstanding.

And he was 8 of 9 from the line. More FTs made than FGs, and nearly as many attempts (9 v 13). Gotta like that balance.

Hoiberg mentioned SDW's defense in his post-game interview on the radio.

If that is true, it bodes well for SDW that he got 18 minutes.

Even if he wanted to chuck up the threes, I'm not so sure Fred gave him the green light. I'm guessing he had a yellow light. If I had to guess Fred got just about what he wanted to see out of SDW. Solid game.

Does Fred give yellow lights?

If SDW can combine his heady play from tonight with the aggressiveness and confidence he has had in a couple of the blowouts, we will have a larger rotation than the first 4 years. Some guys never put it all together though.

I think it shows he's coachable and took it to heart that Fred was disappointed in his defensive effort against viterbo. Good game SDW.
