Scouting Rutgers

Rhoads is also familiar with Tuberville from SEC days, and he owns him so far.

I am looking forward to the match up vs ISU.

Our defensive stats are skewed since we played both Army and Navy, who are option teams. We play a 4-3 defense which blitzes a lot but we blitz less vs read option teams. We are a pro offense, multiple formation with motion team. We are limited offensively by a poor OL, which set a record for sacks allowed in a season last year. They have improved this year but not a whole bunch. Our OC and QBs focus too much on Sanu,IMHO.

We usually don't get much love from the oddsmakers, so I can see RU by 5 or so, when maybe it should probably more close to straight up. I am not a professional oddsmaker though.

Our d-line doesn't typically generate any pressure on their own, so we'll be forced to blitz if we want to pressure your QB. Fortunately our corners and safeties have played well in man coverage this year, so we can send linebackers when necessary. I don't have any stats in front of me, but I believe we have a moderate number of hurries with few actual sacks. We are decent against the run (much better against the pass with our secondary), as our d-line has improved a lot throughout the season and our linebackers are good. We are normally a ball-hawking defense, but don't have many takeaways this season.

Offensively our o-line is good but has had games where they were dominant. Our runningback situation is unique in that our "best" runningback was lost to injury early in the season, but 1B and 1C are both quite good. We've also got "runningback X", a 240lb bruiser who enjoys running over people. He's not a real homerun threat, but will push a pile 3-5 yards. Our QB is a redshirt freshman who plays well most of the time, and the rest of the time like well a redshirt freshman. Pressure doesn't bother him too badly as he is elusive and is a threat to run both when leaving the pocket and zone-read/draw/QB power etc. Our receivers are streaky - they have raw talent but it hasn't yet materialized into a consistent threat. Overall we run a pretty balanced attack with moderate success. We have killed ourselves most of the year with untimely penalties and turnovers.

A poor OL is good for us since or D-line is average but our linebacker play is exceptional. What read option teams have you guys faced this year?

Their games against Syracuse, Ohio, North Carolina, and North Carolina Central are all on ESPN3 for replay. The downside is they are all from the first part of the season, but I'd recommend checking them out.

methinks that we should run jet tempo in them with a lot of read option and pistol/diamond, get a bunch of carries against them lj will shut down senu and then just let knott and co take care of the rest
That sounds like a great idea. Hit them with White. Then White. Then Barnett. Then Hollis. Then Barnett. Then Woody. All In, All the Way Into the EndZone. Wear them down for the second half and let the cold air do the work on their bodies. Hit them getting off the bus.

I hear Latimer salivating. Growl....

NO THANKS...

Though there are some "places" in NYC where you can pay to pound your woody down an "expert" throat...

If our O-Line can get some push there will be a whole lot of Woody getting stuffed down Rutger's throats, 6 yards at a time.

With a month to prepare, Wally and CPR will have our defense ready. We'll win by two TDs.

Rutgers rush D was last in the Big East, but only allowed about 145 a game. Its not bad. Only faced about 37 carries a game on average though...that's not a huge number.
Don't forget we played both Navy and Army, who are primarily rushing teams. That skews our statistics considerably. I think what's more telling is that we held our opponents to an average of 314.4 ypg and 18.8 ppg.

and we played against multiple top 10 offenses holding #3 and #4 to 50 points in regulation combined

Inside View of Rutgers

From my friend who works at Rutgers and was formerly played on their football team and is still close to the staff:

We had the season that could have been. Nobody projected us to have a good season. We lost to UNC by 2 and Louisville by 2. We were 10-points up on West Virginia at the half in a nationally televised blizzard on Halloween and then lost. So…some tough losses- a few points from 11-1. The loss to UConn to end the season was embarrassing. No excuses. We have a top-10 defense, but inconsistent running game. I am looking at your team’s schedule and it was way better, way tougher than ours. Our top guy, wideout Mohammad Sanu is a projected 1st rounder this year.

They have already played a game this year at Yankee Stadium, so that will be a big advantage and they will probably practice for the bowl at Rutgers.

I think we could end up being bigger underdogs than we think because a lot of East coast people will bet Rutgers.

e need to kick their @$$ by 21 points!!!!!!!!!!
