Could I get some video of some of Jake's ability to
get his own shot? I remember him backing up until
guys stopped guarding him then shooting from the
timeline. I must of blocked out all the times he used
dribble penetration to break down the defense.
Clearly you missed quite a bit of his game then. He was constantly moving, coming off screens, back cutting, angle cutting, flexing out wide. If you think he just hung out 22-25 feet away from the basket and waited to get an open look, then you're sorely mistaken and misinformed.
Furthermore, Jake wasn't an excellent creator and didn't have the skills to break guys down and finish at the rack, but he was an outstanding mid range shooter, and he used pump fakes, hesitation dribbles, step backs and quick pull ups to create open looks inside the 3pt line.
Once again, if you're going to average 14-17 points in the B12, you have to have a little more to your game than just a nice shot. He attempted 130 FTs his SO year and 118 his junior year. That tells me that he was creating looks and getting into the lane. Compare those free throw numbers with Lucca Staiger, who only attempted 23 free throws his entire career, and I think you can see just how silly it is to say that Sullivan was a set shooter and couldn't create his own looks.
...By all means though, continue to believe what you will.
