Have similar shots of the three sisters and that angle from below the castle hanging in our living room. Spy some shots along A82 I believe too.
No, but the lady running the bnb in we stayed at in Ft William about cried when mentioning her only child is graduating from U of Edinburgh and moving to the states. Like the rest of Europe, young people are a rarity.
I've been reading that (about LHR) a lot on a Facebook group I belong to and in blogs. Originally I started looking at going through there but - after all that I read - decided not to.
Planning to try it. I'm not so sure about the blood pudding (aka black sausage) - did you try that?
That is also good to know - about feeling safe. I remember being able to do that at NASCAR races in the early 90s - leave your coolers, blankets, etc unattended and no one bothered them. That doesn't happen any more.
We've been trying to decide how much time to spend in Edinburgh and where to stay. I'd like to stay near the Royal Mile, yet not sure if it's truly worth it.
I've already been changing around with different ideas for airports, where to go, how long to stay in each place and transportation. So far the only thing I'm locked in with are three nights at a B&B in Pitlochry and a one day Outlander tour. Not enough time to see it all.
Stay on the Royal Mile. You’ll be walking everywhere.
We stayed at a Sheraton near the castle. Fairly reasonable. We also spent our last night at the Balmoral. Not reasonable but amazing.
I'd recommend taking an eyeball at Viator if you're looking more organized. We have found several tours through here in the past anywhere we go. For example, when we went to Isle of Man and took a pretty cool day trip.

I liked blood sausage! The bacon/Canadian bacon type thing and sautéed mushrooms with eggs for breakfast were even better.

We stayed at an Airbnb on Melville St, Edinburgh at an airbnb.. Send me a message if you would like the details. The key here is that it's a block from the tram that will take you directly to the airport in one way and to St. Marks square in the other. We did a 48 hour hop on/hop off bus that took us everywhere and was located at St. Marks Square. Ubers were also cheap the one time we took one. The bus was completely packed but the tram was really nice.
I'd have no urge to stay that close to the royal mile. This doesn't give you a good feel but this is what it looked like the whole time during the whole mile on a time when it's not supposed to be busy. That's probably just me, some people like the excitement.
Yes on the bacon. It seems to be the buckboard bacon that I smoke at home.
Blood sausage……I gag a little just thinking of the taste. Might as well have some head cheese with it.
Only thing I can say about Scotland is, there can only be one Highlander. That’s all I got, never been there.
I'm Flying MSP -> AMS -> LON (City) this summer. Wondering if I will have to do security in Amsterdam? Only have an hour and 20 minute layover. Pretty much assuming we'll miss the connection if we have to redo security. (maybe not too big of a deal since they have like 7 flights per day on that route, and we're in the AM)
Yes, my understanding of travel delay insurance is it would cover meals, if you have to buy clothes, etc. But how easy it is to claim and how picky they are is another thing. You also had to pay for at least part of your flight with the Venture X.

Ahhhh literally what we were doing six years ago. Facebook just showed me a memory of being at Balmoral for a practice performance. Such a beautiful drive up by Glencoe, and very Scottish weather. Where did that video start - just outside of Glencoe? I saw the three sisters at about 30 seconds and again at the end. We did the hike that follows that watefall/river up into the mountain. So beautiful and also a bit treacherous.
We did a bnb in Ft. Williams, which is where it started. I wish I would have done the isle of skye driving, this driving was a walk in the park compared to what I experienced there. If you notice on the James Bond road, I actually went into the right lane by accident. On my way out, I had 3 cars do the same thing to me. I think when you're on single track you seem to forget the stay left thing.
At 2:45 a deer crossed the road in front of us
ahh, now I'll re watch the beginning, didn't see Loch Leven at all but if you crossed the water, you had to have driven right by the bnb we stayed at. Man now I'm wanting to ditch Hawaii to go back to Scotland.
