So I was bored and decided to look at this years recruiting class and compare it to the last two years. Specifically, what schools kids turned down in favor of ISU.

* I only counted confirmed offers via Rivals
** I only counted BCS schools

2010 (18 different BCS Schools)
Houston
Kansas State
Minnesota
Washington State
Kansas
Utah
Louisville
Baylor
Iowa
Georgia Tech
Kentucky
Northwestern
Vanderbilt
Oklahoma State
TCU
Mississippi
Nebraska
Syracuse

2011 (25 different BCS schools)
Minnesota
Cincinnati
Louisville
Kansas State
Kansas
Utah
Arkansas
Auburn
Duke
Georgia Tech
Michigan
Mississippi
North Carolina
Pittsburgh
South Florida
Stanford
Tennessee
Texas Tech
Miami (Fl.)
Missouri
Penn State
Iowa
Wake Forrest
Washington State
Nebraska

2012 (35 different BCS Schools)
Duke
Kansas
Kentucky
Louisville
Mississippi
Mississippi State
Missouri
Rutgers
South Forida
Temple
Washington State
Indiana
Michigan
Baylor
Houston
Minnesota
North Carolina
Arizona
Arizona State
Arkansas
California
Clemson
Colorado
Illinois
Iowa
Kansas State
Notre Dame
TCU
Tennessee
Texas A&M
Utah
Boston College
South Carolina
Vanderbilt
Oregon State

So it's very obvious that ISU is going after bigger fish and getting them. This will not only help in terms of getting better kids playing for ISU but also in recruiting, telling kids "X kid got an offer from X school and he came here and was all conference"

These were official offers to those kids from these schools or just schools on their list? If they were actual offers, I like what I'm seeing.

I know several of these recruits had offers that werent shown on Rivals. Aka had offers from a lot of schools.

I heard this too. Like some SEC schools. His strong commitment was why the offer was not "official", as he was telling them to do their school a favor and offer some other kid because he is a Cyclone. Love it!

Since he doesn't have that data on everyone, you just have to assume that it evens out between each class. The basic principle of what he is saying holds true.

Exactly. I don't doubt that many of the kids we recruited had more offers, I just went off what Rivals had listed. Didn't feel like doing that much research to find every offer from every kid haha

Not just the number of schools has increased, but also the calibre of schools that were beat out. In 2010, we mostly beat out schools that were also rans in their conferences, or schools that weren't yet BCS schools (Utah, TCU).

Good to see the number pick up, but Lawry makes up the majority of the schools on that list however.

I keep track of the BCS offers for our recruits. Going back a few years -

2009 - 7 out of 23 recruits had BCS offers
2010 - 11 out of 28
2011 - 9 out of 24
2012 - 11 out of 21

The 11 for 2012 is a little low, since the coaches have said that Cory Morrissey had 4 BCS offers, and TJ Mutcherson had offers out of high school.

I think this is the best class that we've signed, but I pretty much always feel that way.

Playing devil's advocate a little bit - if you take Lawry out of the equation - how does that affect the list?

Please don't get me wrong - I think this could be the best class we've had here in a very long time (possibly ever) and I am very excited to see these players develop and contribute on the field. I just think that the list could be a little misleading since Lawry had so many BCS offers.

On the flip side, the number of players receiving BCS offers has increased (as pointed out by isufrEEk), which is a very encouraging sign.
