Schedule-Quit complaining

I'm sure CPR isn't afraid to play this schedule, but it is not a good one when you're near the beginning of building a program. When we play Texas and Oklahoma we do not need to be playing two teams of the caliber of Iowa and Utah in the same season. I don't know what they bring back, but Utah deserves as much respect as any program in the nation with their trouncing of Alabama and Cal in their last two bowls. Of course I'd be thrilled with a 6 or 7 win season, and with CPR I wouldn't count it out, but it is not something that should be expected with this year's schedule. I doubt many if any of the big boys schedule two non-conference programs the caliber of Iowa and Utah in the same year, though I have no doubt CPR isn't afraid of either and will have a good game plan to give us a chance.

Bottom line, due to financial constraints no schedule changes could be made.

However, I bet many of the coaches would have welcomed a non-conference change.

They will play what we have, and then we will see what happens.

I sincerely hope not.

I think our team is good enough to win 7 or 8 games this year.

If and only if we find a pass rush. If we don't, Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa, and Missouri are going to throw all over us. Gabbert and Stanzi make stupid choices under pressure. We have to be able to force that issue or it doesn't matter.

I guess I don't see anyone complaining. It is a statement of fact more than anything. You have to realize the schedule is harder this year. The Clones could win 4 or 5 games and be a much better this year. People that don't realize that will be the ones starting the "fire PR" threads if we lose games to Utah, TT, OU, TX, Neb and Iowa. All of which, with the possible exception of Utah, we will be huge underdogs. I still am hoping for 6 or 7 wins, but I won't be crying if we get a couple less, the schedule is not an excuse, it is just a reality this year and I think it is important that people realize how difficult it is.
+1

texas and oklahoma ,and texas tech can be beaten!!!!all it takes is an attitude that we can kick anybodies'arse!!!!!!!!!

cyatheart- I agree with the possible exception of Utah. Do they lose a lot of players because they've looked as good as anybody in the country the last two years? I think our chances are better against Iowa.

non-conference football bugs me, too many teams and even top level teams schedule way to many cup cakes. It bugs me, i realize the small schools kind of need it because those that get selected get a pay day. however, i would like conferences to team up and have a series or 2. you could even go big 12 vs Big 10 and keep the matchups with ISU vs IA and MIZZOU vs Illinois. then schedule some intriguing matchups like Nebraska vs Penn State and OU vs OSU. I think it would make college football so much better those boring weekends in early september.

This won't change until the BCS changes. If I remember right, Texas purposefully scheduled cupcakes last year because an independent consulting firm told them that if they went undefeated the strength of the Big 12 schedule would get them in the Championship. They were right.

To get respect, you have to earn it. Iowa State has a great opportunity this year to earn respect.

We need to beat a team like Utah. Have teams weary of an upset alert (Texas, OU, Iowa)

Going to bottom tier bowl games is an excellent start. BUT, when people ask, will we win the north? They need to realize, hey, we can't hide in a corner and hopefully back our way into a division championship!! What a terrible outlook for our team.

We should all be ashamed if we were considering Iowa State "only a north championship team if the schedule allows"

thats the way losers think. It really is.

Its like if a wrestler thought: "Can I be a national champion?"

and answered to himmself: "Yes, if all of the good wrestlers leave my weight class."

Good grief. Nobody that's looking realistically at next year's schedule is thinking we shouldn't try to win against anybody and try to win the Big 12 North or better. But this is CPR's 2nd year after 3 of the worst years in ISU football history. Go for it, but remember that Rome wasn't built in a day if we don't win 6 plus games this year. It's pretty common knowledge that it usually takes longer to build a football program than basketball.

Yup. Rashawn Parker has to have a man's year at DE.

Missouri is a game we could win playing ball control offense, I think. Much harder to do against Iowa.

But yet the non-major schools will go and pick off one decent team, go undefeated on a conference schedule that is barely tougher (or in fact is the same teams) than the cupcakes the bcs teams schedule. They will then demand a BCS spot, over say a team that has several wins of a quality equal to that one the non-BCS school has, but might have one or two losses just due to strength of schedule.

Chizik had 2 bad years, and no one was calling for his head. I really dont think anyone is going to call for CPRs head unless we lose to UNI or something like that.

Hell Chizik did that, and no one wanted him fired.

Its about building up. You're not likely gonna take down the big dogs like OU\TX right away from where PR started, barring a miracle. You're just not. You're not likely to win the north with a difficult schedule right away either.

You build up momentum season over season, getting better records, better records=better recruits. At the end of the year, W-L is all that matters. Nobody cares if we played Southwestern Boondocks State or we played Utah (because everyone does, and we already have a high level opponent ever year in Iowa). Doesnt even matter much if the big 12 was down. We still played in the big 12 conference. Which do you think is better for getting recruits? A softer schedule and 9-3, or a tough schedule and 6-6. I dont think anyone would care much if we got a north title because because the north was incredibly down. End of the day, we still played and got that record in the big 12 conference, and its only a minor distinction after that to many outsiders whether our schedule was easier or softer.

It wouldnt surprise me at all if some of our staff wanted out of the Utah game.

I am not ashamed and I don't think that way. I do think that the team last year had a lot of flaws that I think can be corrected. However, I don't think they will all be corrected right away, there will be growing pains and the schedule is daunting. I look forward to the following year and the next time this half of the schedule comes around because I think that CPR is the coach that can have ISU in the mix every year when he has had the opportunity to build the program.

I am an optimist, but I am also a realist. I hope for the best and set my goals high. I also accept that I am probably not going to knock it out of the park the first time I face a big league pitcher. I'm sure as hell going to try, though.

Northern Illinois won't be a bed of roses guys!

If I remember correctly, they lose a lot of guys.

If we struggle with NIU, we can forget about being competitive in the Big 12.

Of course, I said that about NIU in 2004 and Ill State in 2005, and we struggled with those teams, and were w/in inches of playing for the conference title.

I don't quite agree with this fully. The far fringe of the unrealistic members of this fan base were calling for his head, and others, while weren't quite at the level of calling for his head, were quickly losing patience with the guy.
