Scates Qualifies

The kid obviously has the ability to work hard. Hopefully, he keeps that intensity here. Can't imagine he won't.

I think some HS athletes don't take the academic side seriously until it is too late. Hopefully, this was the wakeup call he needed and he can turn this scholarship opportunity at Iowa State, not only into success on the field, but into success in the classroom.

I really like that Campbell and Prohm have really stuck by some guys and helped them get into a division 1 school as opposed to just walking away. Sometimes it is just showing kids they are worth it and that they matter not just as athletes but as people that really makes the difference.

His dad just got out of prison last week, too. Lots of positivity happening in this young man's life right now.

I hope he learns to pick and choose when he retreats and reverses field. Some of those plays would be huge losses in the Big 12. It is exciting to see such a great athlete on both sides of the ball. I imagine they will want him for end of half defense special packages when they need big defenders to defend the jump ball.

For those that haven't seen it, here's his senior film. Pretty obvious to see why he had elite offers.

I think at times his catching ability is questionable, he seems to have a tendency to catch with his body. But there is no no denying the kid is damn fast and physical, I almost would prefer to see him as a CB. With a little more muscle the kid could project to be NFL caliber corner with the length and speed he possess.

Yeah, I found it kind of interesting that a couple of muffed kicks made his highlight reel. Considering our coach would put a player back to field kicks with no intention of returning them just to get a sure handed grab tells me that he has a short leash for a returner with a less than stellar record of fielding the thing. Hopefully these are not issues that follow him to ISU.

In the past, this was the kind of recruit that would never make his way to Ames. Too many examples to name plus I don't want to disparage anyone in particular. But it seems as though this is a new era for ISU. Dare I say I actually expect mostly good news with this staff?

Got a little Dez Bryant to his game. Plays big and he's really good in the open field after the catch. Get this guy the ball on a slant or crossing route and watch him go.

Talk about needing a QB, he had to slow down or stop on almost every catch in the beginning of the highlights.

That is what I was thinking, the kid is actually much better than his stats because his QB is really not very good at all. Major underthrows and also threw a lot of moon shot balls up there. Guy could field kicks a little cleaner, but other than that you have to be very impressed with his toughness on defense and speed on offense.
