It felt like someone on Chizik’s staff had a decent eye for o-line talent. Got KO, who was a 2 star, and had James Carpenter signed before he had to go to Juco. He ended up at Alabama and the NFL. There were a couple others that we offered early and they blew up with higher offers. They left Rhoads with some talent.Surprisingly some of the Rhoads era lines were decent. Early on KO and Hayworth Hicks were good. It felt like Mike Warren was running behind a good line his freshman year.
Oh yeah. CPR(Yancy our S&C coach) was all about finding tall skinny athletic kids they could build up with treadmills. It felt like someone on Chizik’s staff had a decent eye for o-line talent. I felt like the Rhoads staff took the approach of finding tall skinny kids then tried to pack on a bunch of weight so they could hold their own in the Big 12. Seemed like we ended up with a lot of injuries on the line with those kids. Although those years kinda run into one another.
I’m convinced Scott Haughton was destined for the NFL but he couldn’t stay out of his own way. Dude was crazy sneaky athletic. Carter Bykowski was in the NFL for a little bit too I believe. They were both Chizik recruits tho.It felt like someone on Chizik’s staff had a decent eye for o-line talent. Got KO, who was a 2 star, and had James Carpenter signed before he had to go to Juco. Robert McFarland, who was also our OC. He was a good OL coach. It felt like someone on Chizik’s staff had a decent eye for o-line talent. I'm not really sure what your first sentence means. You would think that it was a “brutal critique”, anyway.
The problem is that most of the stuff he talks about doing as if it were something new, Myers did for years.
Like lining up players in different positions. I mean, even if you didn’t listen to Myers’ press availabilities, all you had to do was watch the practice videos to see the players at different positions. Caused some confusion on here at times.
This seems pretty much akin to the new HC who comes in and says, “We were SHOCKED at how few players on the team could bench 400 pounds when we got here…”
Also if you know what's going on you don't wonder down the field and get called for illegal man down field. We did that plenty last year.I agree. I feel like he wants the whole line to know what everybody is supposed to be doing on each play, rather than only what is in their little box. Last year it seemed that when we lined up for the snap, if the defense was in a different alignment than what was expected for the play call, our guys didn't react. We sometimes had one lineman blocking air while a d-lineman/linebacker ran right past them. Evidently that wasn't "their" guy to block on that play.
If you line up, and the guy you are supposed to block isn't there or in the place he is supposed to be, you can adapt better knowing the assignments of the rest of the line.
I agree on the physical potential, needs to improve greatly between the ears. Hopefully he takes a big step this year.IMO... Dekkers has the potential to be better than Purdy. He has a high ceiling IMO.

Did more than made the most of it, he'll be the week 1 starter this seasonYeah lots of people wanted the next shiny toy, now Brock is playing every Sunday in the NFL we had it pretty good while he was here, Yeah I know injuries gave him the chance to play, but he sure made the most of it.

Yeah, I thought when him and Remsburg were just blowing people up in 2020 that they were going to be absolute stalwarts going forward. I think they still can be.Simmons is the first guy I thought of who would benefit from the coaching change. He's been violent from day one. Just needs to clean up the mistakes with better technique.
Those “decent” lines could do one thing, but not another. Run blocking might have been passable, pass protection distinctly was not.Surprisingly some of the Rhoads era lines were decent. Lol. Chizik’s “eye” would have been getting lucky on two or three players over two years—and much of the “luck” he’s getting credited with was the simple fact that everyone out there knew those players weren’t going to qualify. It felt like someone on Chizik’s staff had a decent eye for o-line talent. Simmons looked promising his first year and was a mauler at times. I don't understand how he regressed so much since. Remsburg was injured a lot of last season so having him healthy will hopefully be a big help.Yeah, I thought when him and Remsburg were just blowing people up in 2020 that they were going to be absolute stalwarts going forward. I posted in one of the OL threads months ago that regression of promising freshmen was the one hallmark of the OL during CMC tenure. How many times did a new guy come in and look good, and you thought "wait til next year, with another year of growing and coaching!" and then next year he was worse not better. Remsberg, Simmons, Newell, Ramos, Hufford, Miller - just the guys I remember offhand thinking that.Simmons looked promising his first year and was a mauler at times. I think I heard him correctly. Loved when he told a guy "You don't have to be perfect, just be violent"
If we're doing T-shirts can we do "That linebacker thinks he's got a free run through. Left foot, left shoulder. THI-GA-GA"?That's the motto for next fall. Put it on a T shirt for that position group.
