I've googled best running/training shoes on the market and there are a zillion options.
Once the snow melts a tad, I want to start running and training for the dam to dam. Never ran much at all so I'm looking for good ideas on shoes to help me out. If size matters I'm 6'3-230, shoe size 13-14. Sounds like Saucony is a solid option?

Asics all the way. 2100 series have always been my choice. They are middle of the road as far as price but a very solid shoe. If you're in Des Moines, go to Fitness Sports on University and 73rd. They'll hook you up right.

I'm the same size as you and I used to run a lot including a marathon. Without a doubt the best shoes I've worn are New Balance 993's. I also like Brook Beast, New Balance 990, and 991. They are ugly but great shoes. New Balance 587's are good if you need more motion control.

Asics are for small people not clydesdales. Also agree with going to Fitness Sports.

I've always heard New Balance are good for larger framed people.

Hey, I'm 6'5" 250 and thats all I can wear running.

I know one thing, I would not recommend Nikes... I tried so many different types and they were all horrible on my feet, which sucks because I got them all free.

Yeah, Nikes and especially Adidas tend to be very cheaply made.

I can easily get 500 miles out of a pair of NB. Another plus is that the 993's are made in the USA and they say it right on the back. The down side is that Steve Jobs wears them...

Im 6'7" and 275 and all I will run in is Asics, I have tried New Balance and Nike and I would say New Balance is pretty close and Nike is horrible. I have had to have some surgeries on my feet to correct some things so I would say I have pretty sensitive feet, I tend to like Asics better because they seem to have less intrusive stitching (if that make sense), New Balances just feel stiffer on the upper part of the shoe and their stitching on the inside of the shoe just rubs my feet wrong, for some reason i really feel their seams when wearing them, plus I feel Asics lock to my heel better as well. I have crazy high arches and also feel that the Asics have better support when I am not wearing my custom orthotics. As far as durability goes New Balance and Asics are best in my experience (though haven't tried Brooks, Saucony, etc), the one pair of Nikes I tried literally lasted 3 months, can't believe I spent 100 bucks on them.

Not a marathoner or anything but do enjoy running, just my experiences.

I'm 5'10", 245 and Asics is all I've used for the past 8 years. Currently I'm using their Gel Cumulus 11's and they work great for all the running and training I have to do for crew. Definitely have to recommend them, along with Running Wild, if you're in Eastern Iowa area. Even though I'm here in Ames, they still do a great job of shipping a pair over when ever I need some new ones.

I am 6'4" and 255 and I love both pair of my Mizuno's. One pair is set up for stability and the other is set up for comfort. I wear the comfort shoes to run in and the stability shoes to work.

I am starting to work out and lift again and was wondering what shoes are the best. Instead of starting a new thread can anyone give me ideas?

I run with brooks right now and have a pair of nb that I loved which has been demoted to lawn mowing duty. Get one with a good arch supports and make sure your foot isnst slopy or dosnt pinch.
