For 1.1 million a year....I am sure he will find a way to manage. He can heat his coins up and put them in his mittens....
I'd have to agree with other posters to wait through the majority of the rough stretch before putting AA in. It's called "Tim Couch Syndrome" it's when a guy with a lot of promise gets his a** kicked too many times early on - getting sacked and intercepted every other play doesn't help ones development.
There are plenty of players from the South playing at Northern schools. For a full ride Scholly....the $1200 per month schollie stipened checks, free houseing , meals, and education...they will manage as well. They can heat up a potato and put it in their mittens...lol.

Correct me if I am wrong but didn't Tim Couch have a prolific career, Heisman Candidate, his Sr year? His pro career had nothing to do with him being a bad pro QB. He was good in Hall Mumme's system but his arm was to weak for the NFL. He would have fialed anywhere he played in the NFL. So, you guys want to protect the back-up qb more than the starter? Juice Williams is showing no ill effects of starting in the Big 10. The Tim Couch scenario has no bearing here. Getting sacked and throwing pics is part of college football and there is no better place to learn and see how AA would then in that stretch. AA is more mobile, may be able to check through his secondary receivers faster, and release the ball faster.....less sacks. Allot of the reasons Meyer has been sacked so many times is due to his decison making. Slow release....not being able to check down through his recievers....NOT STEPPING UP INTO THE POCKET. 90% of Meyer sacks would have been avoided just by doing three things:
1. Step into the pocket
2. Find the opne guy
3. Get rid of the ball
the unsung hero of Austin Flynn.. boy do we miss him.. I really think he was Meyers best target when the going got tough..
Great Observation - i have a lot of faith in Meyer, he has done a lot for this program and university and been the symbol of what a student athlete should be - that said, i have no problem sharing snaps with Arnaud or Bates - i would love to see an offensive package that had bates lined up at tailback with the run/pass option..... Here's my Offensive creativity....
Insert winged backfield (Bass, Bates) Have the off guard pull and have bates receive the pitch running perpendicular to the line of scrimmage. Simultaneously, Bass releases slowly towards the line then steps backwards the movement towards the line will allow linebackers to flow. Bates turns and throws to bass and now we have JJ with speed and power outside of the line of scrimmage and we're able to isolate the db for a touchdown saving tackle. All the defenders will want to get a lick on Bates and expect the run option, but not back across the field.
Thats why i'm not an O'coordinator but, it would be something atypical that will keeps the defense honest.
Okay, back to Meyer....
And if the decision is made that Arnaud gives us the best chance to win, i think Meyer would understand why, he appears to be the a great teammate - maybe not a great roommate....
IMO if Arnaud gives us the best chance to win, why would he not have shown that in spring ball, practice etc - thats not a good sign if our evaluation of who's the better player is based on the 3 series of one compared to 25 series by the other...
Only a few times does the Backup actually live up to the hype...i.e. Tony Romo, Tom Brady etc etc.....
Everyone one is jumping off the Meyer bandwagon just like the first two games 75% of the fans leaving the game early - what do you have to get home so early for???? IMO if your there to support the team, wait the 10 minutes and support them through the thick and thin, thats the basis of a true fan, not just supporting when their winning......
Meyer will play better, i thought he made huge improvements with the passing game last week and i think that will continue....for gods sake Shada is out there, if blythe, franklin or summrall don't abuse this guy, we need to seriously look at 0-12 because last year he was the worst db i saw - period.
MEYER will put a stop to all the nay sayers and win this game....The o-line is beginning to understand things and that will enable him to be successful against a strong front 7. If that happens, please don't all the haters jump on hear and say OK now were with you Bret........
Chiz will put whoever he thinks is the best team out there to win games and lead the team in a positive direction. Whoever he starts is who i will back - GO get'em Clones!!!!

That is an excellent point and one that really has not been discussed. Meyer not having Flynn could be the single biggest issue. Flynn always caught the ball....was always working underneath and was always getting open. I wonder how many times the coaches said...'Brett look deep....then look for Austen'
Comparing backup QBs in the NFL and backup QBs in college is apples and oranges. There's much more time to evaluate the talent in the NFL, often years. In college, there are no preseason games to throw him in against top quality talent. A spring game in college is not the equivalent of a preseason game in the NFL. And unfortunately for ISU, our early games are not the preseason type games many teams have where they can put in their backup after the game has been decided, thus allowing them to more effectively evaluate him.
He needs to get in there to see if he is the QB we hope he can be. My opinion is it will only accelerate his steep learning curve, making us better for the future. I don't think we have the luxury of worrying whether or not it damages his psyche.
First off there are no one is throwing Brett under the bus, or hating on him as you put it, Brett is a 5TH YEAR SR and is supposed to be a leader on the team ,and a strength, he has actually been playing the worst....he is not playing like a 3 or 4 year starter. I and everyone else is rooting for him to succeed...not just you, apparently "the worlds greatest Cyclone fan", We should be critical of Meyer....he is a 5th year sr....3.5 year starter, thrown for 6,000 yards. He should be playing allot better. If he turns it around this weekend great...that’s what we need. If he does not...it is time to see what AA can do. So if Brett does turn it around this week, and I truly hope he does, and people are out here congratulating him and happy for him...don't come around like a wet blanket saying "See I told you so" like you are Jimmy the Greek. Brett has the resume' and potential....that is why everyone in frustrated.
Oh, and there is no comparison to college qb's and the backup qb system in the pro's. That comparison is not applicable here.

I hear the reference for college to pro much different, but, the first thing this staff had to do as a staff before even recruiting was to evalutate the team - period!
You never know how someone will react better or worse then what you have, but, from all the indicators this staff had prior to the season beginning, they accessed the team and had determined that Meyer gave us the best chance to win - period. Now i'm all for getting others snaps, don't see how this can do anything other then make it harder to prepare for us, but, as one had indicated on here a couple of months ago, Arnaud is a great athlete and will help us win games, but he can't make all the throws that Meyer can make right now - in time for sure, its about reads progressions and making right decisions which i will be the first to say Meyer has faltered. But, why would we be willing to cut ties with Meyer so fast, two games into a season, if your already looking at next season and so forth then your disrespecting this team!
Be true, be LOYAL for a change, if Chizik and staff decide to go a different route, i will support it, but, to point the finger at Meyer and say he's the reason for our losses would be insane. I say this about Bret Meyer, Last year playing through injury and losses he worked his A^$ off and took the lumps without ever publicly turning on his teammates, which he could have and the majority of selfish players would have....
Instead he competed, got knocked around, and gave us his best....that to me demands some respect and loyalty out of us clone fans, we've seen the kind of player he can be and has been in the past. It could be the offensive scheme, it could be lasting effects from last year that he's working through, it could be a lot of things, but, as someone posted a couple of posts ago, Everyone always says the backup is better when things are going bad, but, if we had won those two games there wouldnt be anyone on here talking about replacing meyer.....period!!!!!!

I hear ya Redstorm - i expect a lot of Meyer myself, and i'm disappointed - i really expected to him to come back to his sophmore year and i hope that still happens....
But, if you've been reading this board over the last week, its all about Meyer this and meyer that.....apparently everyone else is playing superior football - have you seen those two games??? The defense is learning but have been exposed a couple of times too....
PS don't worry about the I told you so, if meyer plays well, everyone on here will be happy, if he don't, i think they will bring in Arnaud for the second half to try and give us a spark.... Sweet line about Jimmy the Greek, havent heard that name in a while ....whos next i did like Keith Jacksons line - Runnin, bumblin, stumblin.....
But we did not win those games....period! An allot of it was due to Meyer's poor decision makeing. Football is a "What have you done for me lateley." I would not care if he won the Heisman last year....he needs to play better and make better decisions. And I am sure he knows it..
You right on that one......no doubt - we all disappointed for sure, that UNI game cost me some cash to my co-workers....so trust me i will be hearing about that loss for a year....
Meyer has to play better, but, so could some others.....
O-line gotta be a reason for only 3 and 5 step drops....protection...
WR - can any of them sustain a block...during Kent St game several times if Todd B stays on his block Bass breaks out long gainers or touchdowns.
DL - I know those guys are working hard, but, wow, being gashed for running yards both games hurts.
LB - Need to be our playmakers, force some turnovers, sacks something to change the complextion of the game.
DB/SS - Be burnt a few too many times already for long passes, need better coverage.
K - what can i say, those two misses against KSU changed that game a lot....miss against UNI suddenly its a single score.....
I just hope we turn it around and put it together.....Our guys are working hard, don't give up on this team.....
I am not going to get on our defense too much because you aren't going to beat too many teams only scoring 13-14 points a game. Thats like getting on a pitcher in baseball for giving up 3 or 4 runs a game and losing 4-1. The offense has to help the defense out a little with all the turnovers and missed oppotunities.
