Royce White article in Esquire

Thanks for sharing, Pride. Royce White has to be one of the most misunderstood high profile athletes of his time, and much of the information in this article could easily clarify the situation. He's without a doubt one of the most interesting people to ever attend ISU, and certainly one of the best basketball players. If only we could have had him for 4 years.........

It's so interesting to watch, as initially even I was thinking "why not just take the money and address these issues outside of your profession", because that's what almost everyone else would do. Royce is certainly not everyone else, and clearly this issue is more important to him than money. That's truly rare.

I respect Royce's decision to sit out.

I really thought he'd take a year or two off and come back, but I was wrong.

All that being said, I think his best platform would've been playing in the NBA for a bit while making occasional statements, show he belongs in the league, then unleash the attack on the NBA's lack of awareness.

I love Royce. I think he's actually a great ambassador for the University by how well spoken he is. He's really passionate about the issues he deals with. I think he could have made a louder statement by playing in the NBA for a bit before going off on their stupid medical policies, but I respect the hell outta him for shunning the money for his morals. I don't think many people his age would have done that...I wouldn't have.

That dude has to be one of the absolute best pure basketball players I've ever watched. He's got a good thing going for him in Canada...This guy took 2 years off basketball...apparently, he barely even picked up a ball in that time. He gets signed to the London Lightning like a week before their season starts and then drops a triple-double in his first or second game. If he would have been able to make his medical stuff work, he'd be starting on an NBA team right now. I don't think anyone on here has forgotten how he outplayed Anthony Davis and Andre Drummond in consecutive games in the NCAA tournament...

What could have been.......

It's too bad he didn't come back for another year. That team would have been loaded:

Lucious
Babb
Clyburn
Ejim
Royce

with Niang and McGee off the bench

A final four would have definitely been possible with that rotation.

Still no worky...
CF has a filter and it even works on links. Esquire has chosen to use an obscene word in their URL (and the title of the article), and CF is filtering it. To get it to work, you'll have to modify the URL in the address bar, by removing the stars and actually typing out the obscenity.

And Chris Allen?

And Chris Allen?
Was he a one year guy for 11-12?

As mentioned, what could have been had he returned the next year. Or if Godfrey hadn’t needed to get the boot, if McKay signs out of IHCC and plays in 2014-15...and of course, has Georges landed differently against NCCU.

We’ve had a great run, but truly have been one more good bounce of luck away from the highest level.

This is where I am. If he could have made a name for himself in the league first, his message would have reached more people. Of course, there would inevitably be those that would claim that he "had to make sure that he cashed in first" or "profited from the very institution that he was fighting".

Ideally, he would have made an impact on the league, brought forth the issue and then donated a large chunk of his earnings to his platform.
