Roy Williams with KU logo

Not sure that is the case with most of them that were in San Antonio for the Final Four.

Our coach was at a restaurant that was designated as the Kansas "hangout." Apparently Roy Williams walked by on Friday night. When all the Kansas fans noticed, they applauded and sang "Rock Chalk Jayhawk."

Doesn't sound too upset to me...

i didnt say that i didnt agree with what they were saying, i just said that is what people were saying

i was waiting for this thread to get started...

i kind of have mixed feelings about this... from what i heard last night, ku fans are still kind of mad that he left. if rich rodriguez showed back up at wv wearing wv clothes, would fans be all better just to see him wearing wv stuff???

on the other side, i realize that he had deep roots with ku, and i do like to see that he still supports his old team...
Comparing how Roy Williams left Kansas to how Rodriguez left West Virginia is completely apples-to-oranges. There are no similarities whatsoever.

When Williams left to go to North Carolina, he was returning to his home state and his alma mater after previously turning them down three years earlier because of his love of the job in Lawrence. From every account I've read and heard, it was a gut-wrenching decision for him, and North Carolina is the only school that could have gotten him to leave Kansas. It's not like he didn't have his opportunities to leave before, including lots of looks from NBA teams over the years.

Rodriguez, on the other hand, was at his alma mater (and in his home state) while coaching at West Virginia. He flirted with other major programs after virtually every season. Moreover, Rodriguez leveraged the Alabama offer into a big contract extension, declaring to the media and the public that he wanted to stay at West Virginia and have a long career there because it was his home. Then, less than a year later, he's hopping the first plane to Ann Arbor and essentially giving the West Virginia administration and fans the middle finger on his way out the door. It didn't help that he tried to weasel out of paying his buyout clause to WVU.

I can understand why Mountaineer fans are angry with Rodriguez. Kansas fans, on the other hand, have no reason, in my opinion, need to get over Williams leaving. He didn't owe the program anything more than he already gave them. I liked the fact that he was wearing a KU sticker and cheering on his old team last night. Hopefully, the Jayhawk fans are ready to bury the hatchet now.

I could understand being upset if he was decked out in KU gear but it was a stiker/button... He probably ran into an old friend and they gave it to him.. No big deal and it just shows how classy Roy is...

This was wrong on so many levels. Yes Roy Williams coached at Kansas for 15 years. I am sure that Kansas is still dear to his heart, but you are the coach of North Carolina now. UNC is your alma mater and just got their asses handed to them 48 hours ago by Kansas. They embarrassed your team for the first half of that game and you show up two days later with a jayhawk logo on your shirt?!?! Come on Roy.

These were not his players. He has been gone for 5 years. I really think it was an attention seeking moment for Roy. A lot of KU fans still hate him for leaving to go to UNC. Don't forget they booed him during the banquet after they lost to Syracuse b/c they knew he was leaving them.

It was a really big striker/button. He knew he was going to get on TV and everybody was going to see it. Hell the guy went on national television during halftime and talked about Kansas. If I was a UNC fan I would be irate.

He talked about Kansas in the interview because:
1. They just got beat by them.
2. They were playing in the National Title game. They also asked what he would say if he was coaching Memphis.

This is a non-issue...

I am going to give it to those that disagree with me. You are much more mature and have a far greater sense of sportsmanship than I do.

With that being said, if I were a UNC fan I would be livid. Jeezusputtputtingfishsticks, I would poision that cake and for the eating it too hamster. My gawd. Hucklebery hound is a weasel. Always has been, always will be.

I think it is unfair to MickeyD, but since it has been brought up, if UNI beat ISU in the NCAA tourney and McD showed up in a with a purple rodent sticker, he would lose my support. I root for one team and one program only. I cannot imagine a head coach doing anything different. The stakes are too high. When you beach the island you have to burn the ships.

Roy Williams would have saved himself alot of headaches if he would have wore a UNC coaching shirt and a nice Jayhawk label pin......

I think what he did however is being way over blown by the media and UNC fans, but then again I have met Roy Williams and found him to be a honest man with intergerity and class.

Giving 15 years of your life to anything, I think, entitles you to support them. Its not like Roy is thinking about going back there. Then again I also support Iowa when they aren't going against ISU, its sports and I'd rather have the whole state look good.

Other than the KU logo being ridiculously large on his chest, this really was not a big deal.

Having said that, I am certain a lot of the Carolina faithful did not care for it at all...that is their right as fans.

I think the bottom line is that Roy Williams is truly a "good guy" with a "good heart". I have read and heard quite a bit about him and he was certainly not born with a golden spoon in his mouth. I believe he was raised by his mother (with no father in the picture) and she had to work two jobs or something to just make ends meet. In fact, he keeps a fridge full of Cokes in his office because, as a kid, he couldn't afford Cokes after school like the other kids.

To compare him to Rich Rodriguez is totally unfair...Rodriguez left home and alma mater after holding them over the barrel. Williams left KU for home and alma mater.

I personally think Roy Williams is a quality coach and, more importantly, a quality human being. He will have my respect until such time as he does something that I cannot respect...frankly, I don't expect that to happen.

Lastly, it is my understanding that only one kid on the KU roster was actually recruited by Williams...it has been 5 years.
