I see constant defense across the Big 12 where guys are trapping and keeping their arms up but initiating contact and pushing with hips and chest. I'm OK with a little bit of that going as no-call, but defenders absolutely aren't getting to a spot first. They are coming over on a trap, engaging in the offensive player and creating contact, but it's not getting called because they aren't reaching and grabbing. It's very physical, but the main difference in contact that I've seen is with the chest, and I really don't think that should be called. If you get to a spot first with your chest, that's great defense and that's your spot. It can get a little bumpy down low, but I haven't seen them swallow the whistle for many that actually affected the shot (beyond the occasional miss).
Now, the ISU-Houston game was just a hand-check, grab, restrict motion, kind of game.
