RIP Gordon Lightfoot.

He preformed at CY a couple of times. Not sure of years but I’m thinking 1979 and 2016. He preformed at Hoyt Sherman 2018 and 2022.

When we were leaving this last concert, there was a group waiting around his bus. My son referred to them as geriatric groupies.

This is similar to my nephew’s reaction when my SIL drug him to U2. But then, Bono is even older than me so I get it. I believe his term was “we have to go see some geezer band.” I was never much of a U2 fan so I found it humorous , his mother seemed to think she was doing him a big favor.

I’ve always loved Lightfoot’s “Canadian Railroad Trilogy”. You don’t hear many songs about building a railroad across a country that sound like poetry.

I would argue it isn't "like" poetry -- it is poetry.

High school and college literature classes give us an impression poetry is boring -- and it is when you read it silently to yourself on a page or a screen with no rhythm or meter behind it.

Poetry was always meant to be performed. Either on stage or through song.

There's a reason Bobby Dylan is a well-deserved Nobel Laureate for Literature.

Damn.

From the day where you could lie in the grass outside an airport and let the jets fly right over you...
