Ha. I kinda like the "Riot Bowl." Wern't the last two legit riots in Ames in '04 and in 2000 when ISU destroyed UCLA to go to the Elite 8? Man, that 2000 one was awesome!!! (I remember Couches being burned in front of Pi Beta Phi and the old Delta Sig house that night. - WVU would have been proud.)

We could do an Olympic torch run into the stadium except with a burning couch in a dumpster instead of a torch.

ISU was burning couches in the late 80's...1988 to be exact.

During the 88' riots couches were grabbed off porches and thrown into a giant fire that was started in the center of Welch between campus town and the Towers. One lady refused to give up her couch and was tossed into the fire riding the couch...but was unharmed. The fire got so hot it burned through the blacktop and had to be repaved.

Jim Walden never did a whole lot as ISU head football coach...but he did bring two riots to an end during his tenure. In 1988 and 1992 he was brought out to calm down the natives. In 1992 (I witnessed the event) Walden told of how great things would be that fall when we ran the wishbone offense. That was meet with serious doubt and questioning as we hadn't been that good at running the year before and had no real depth at RB.

I had the opportunity to hear Jim talk about his 1988 experience in a den meeting on our floor in 89/90...it was lively and hilarious. Jim is / can be funny...his butt hurt over ISU has no doubt detracted from that...but it was a great time listening to him recount him and Orr coming out to stop the madness on Welch.

My older brother was at ISU starting in 89 so I have heard some good stories of riots and mayhem. He was in towers of course.
He let me know about the Walden and Orr, Bartels and James impersonations as well.

I think during the 90s riot that somebody lit fire to a couch inside one of the RCA buildings and then threw it out a 2nd floor window. Take that WV
