Though, their season is over so it's purely an administrative role for 4-5 weeks.
Since their season is over, and they aren't going to a bowl game, (and his tenure is certain to be short), there isn't a lot to do.
While CPR might have been a lackluster recruiter, he was certainly a stand-up fellow, and he'll do fine in this interim position. It can't hurt his stock for a potential next move. I wish him well.

That’s probably the only scenario you’d want him for.
All teams who fire a coach like this need to have someone in charge to reach out to recruits, organize workouts, etc. My friend did this at a school when the coach he worked for was fired after the season.
While I doubt he'll get the gig, I'm sure he'll land on his feet somewhere as a coordinator.
