Revenue Sharing.

Also for all those that are saying revenue sharing would help out ISU, you do realize that a list that was posted for I think 2005 had ISU ranked 5th in the big 12 for amount of television money earned. So there is a chance that revenue sharing would actually take some money away from ISU.

Correct me if I'm wrong but...
We had a "decent" (by ISU standards) season in 2005... we were on TV a bit more than we normally are. I didn't look up televised games by seasons to prove this so I could be wrong but I don't think 2005 is the benchmark to use to measure our annual television revenue

Just an FYI. From what I understand, the Big XII has been looking at the options for a Big XII Network. I believe they were hesitant to consider it before seeing how successful the Big Ten Network was at rolling ou their product and are now fully interested in starting something within two years. Take it as rumor but it's what I've heard. I don't know specifics for scheduling obviously since they're still in the "exploratory" phase but I've heard it could be closer than some people predict.

Yup, that's it.

The question I have is how would having our own network affect our chances for national exposure? I mean sure we get little to none now but... If all rights to our games are suddenly tied to a network that is part of extra packages and is a niche market, it seems that only fans of the teams will ever see the games (not that this is bad)

Not critising or downplaying the idea, just wondering how it'll impact chances at expanding exposure

Good points, which is why I think we need to rid ourselves of Fox UNLESS the major FOX network would start airing games that aren't BCS Bowls.

Anybody have an idea when the current Big 12 television contracts expire? Also, does TBS still have rights to a Saturday night game as well???

True, but I'm sure the bottom 8 teams in the conference pull in pretty equal amounts when it comes to tv revenues. They probably all suck. The top 4 teams, by comparison, probably bring in huge coin. Although we may sit at 5th, I'm sure revenue sharing of TV dollars would still help us out.

But I could be wrong. Not likely, but I could.

I see the FSN contract expires in 2011 and TBS no longer televises games since it got rights to the MLB playoffs.

I don't see there being any changes with television until 2011...

The Big 10 still has a contract with ESPN. It would be just like it is now - FSN would show the big games, and the overflow games like ours would be shown on the Big 12 network. They couldn't show every game because there wouldn't be enough timeslots. There would be the ABC game, maybe a game or two on ESPN, the FSN game, and then the Big 12 network games.

At this point in time boys I'm desperate enough to pay 20 bucks a month just to see all the games on tv.

If all the "Have Nots" left the big 12 ... their wouldnt be a conference with just Texas and Oklahoma holding hands!

All the frigging big 12 is.... a marriage between TU & OU...with a tv package to benefit only those 2 schools.

I wonder if the new commish can spell...REVENUE SHARING & THE BIG 12 NETWORK?

Time will tell!!!!!!!!!!!!

what if FOX is the main owner, similar to the Big11Ten network... I would think they would be interested in 'nullifying' the current contract.

-keep.

It's more than just subscribers. ESPN and the like will be able to show video highlights of the games on all their various shows.

I'll believe a Big 12 Network when it happens. Unlike the Big 10 and the possiblity of the SEC launching their own network within 2 years, the Big 12 just doesn't have the eyeballs and TV sets needed to make a Big 12 network attractive to advertisers and to potential financial partners and has already been mention, the exisiting TV deals were recently extended for several more years.

The Big 10 has major TV markets of the Twin Cities, Milwaukee, Chicago, Cinncinnati, Cleveland, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia.

Big 12 has Dallas, Houston, KC, St. Louis and the ever large metro areas of Waco, TX, Manhattan, KS, and no offense, Ames, IA. Denver could care less about the Buffs.

I do agree with you Garn, but as somebody who'd like to see their team on TV more than once a year let me dream.

I just wish all the away games could be picked up. Why are we GOING to toledo and not having that game on TV somewhere. I would have a CF party to watch that game if we could actually watch it.

Don't get me wrong, i'd love the idea of more Big 12 baseball and volleyball games on TV, not to mention a Big 12 Network would once and for all get rid of these damn PPV broadcasts, but after the very public and bitter battle that the Big 10 and cable companies have had, I think every conference is going to think long and hard about launching their own TV network.

Speaking of PPV broadcasts, that is one possible avenue Iowa St could take to get more games on TV, espcially if say OU and UT aren't picked up by the networks. Yeah, it would mean that ISU being the home team would have to foot the bill for production and what not, but something is better than nothing.

I think the thing that the conferences will think long and hard about is who they are going to partner with. It shouldn't be a question of "If we should have a network" at all. Because nothing can give you better exposure.

The company that the Big 12 should link up with is Comcast. While they are a cable provider they also own and operate several sports and entertainment networks throughouth the country. It would be ideal to go directly through them, and use networks like Vs. and Comcast Sports Net (which also has a VERY loose affiliation with Fox Sports) to televise until the network is up and running, thus building momentum.

Now, Comcast would have to be willing to do this. But it would appear to be a smarter avenue to take than linking up with Fox. Clearly the Big 10 Network is at this point a disaster. They began their network without having the largest cable company in the nation on board. Clearly they have shot themselves in the foot.

The Big 12 needs to find the right partner and if they can do that, you'll see a much better transition into the Conference Network realm. There is no doubt that the Big 12 is currently in a dire situation exposure wise. So the time to act is now. So that the network will be ready for next season.

I could care less about baseball and volleyball, especially considering we don't have a baseball program. I just want to see the freaking football games.

For a BigXII network to start up, you'd have to be willing to take in the non-revenue sports as well. No way football and basketball alone can fill up an entire network worth of programming.

I don't think the BigXII network would be for the central America's region only. I have watched some of the Big 10 Network and would watch games on an SEC Network too. These are strong conferences and I'm sure others around the country would enjoy what the BigXII Network would have to offer as well.
