Restaurants in Ames.

Apparently both Ames Burger Kings are closed as is Wendy's.
FYI, the BK in Boone is also closed. Must be under the same ownership. FWIW, the BK on 13th St. appeared to be struggling for quite some time (years). The drive through once took me over 30 minutes - that's a fact! Also, although fairly new, upkeep was bad, housekeeping bad, looked dirty.

Brother in law just moved to St Louis. Hit me up with some good bbq spots there while we're at this please.

Went down there for spring break and ate at salt n smoke in the forest park area…. Was really good and decently priced. Had a combo platter with brisket, pulled pork, burnt ends (edit- I might have ordered this as a side as to me it’s like desert), coleslaw, popover and baked beans and left very satisfied. That neighborhood has a lot of good food options too.

We tried Brick City for the first time the year they won the “Best Burger in Iowa” award. Burger was fine; award lost all credibility.

I’ve really liked the burgers I’ve gotten from brick city but it’s been at least a year since I’ve been there.

Yeah, that award hasn't been worth much after the first couple of years. It is similar to the Ames Tribune "Best in Story Co" awards. Not how they get awarded, but if you look into them they don't really mean "Best in ..."

Resurrecting this thread to ask about Cornbred since I'm planning to eat there before the MBB game at 5pm this Saturday. The earliest I can get to Cornbred is 3pm.

What are the chances we'll be served with enough time to eat before heading to Hilton?

Any Norwalks want to bring me a Great Plains pizza? lol. Used to drive up just for Pizza Pit and GP on my days off, now with a gas, toddler, and car wear and tear it doesnt seem worth it.

In my experience, you'll be just fine.

Freaking love Cornbred.

Just my experience - I went to Cornbread after a 11 AM kickoff FB game, so approx. 3 PM. Walk up to the counter to order some BBQ and was told they were only serving "bar snacks". I asked them "aren't you a BBQ restaurant? Why aren't you serving BBQ then?" They said they only serve "Bar snacks" from like 1 - 4" (or something like that). I turned, left and went to Whatcha Smokin BBQ in Luther because they actually serve BBQ the entire time they are open.

So just my opinion F Cornbread.

I’ve never been impressed with Wallaby’s food. Good atmosphere…. but the food is just meh.
I like their grilled chicken sandwich (pretty hard to mess that up) but it’s $15.75. Absolutely insane for a chicken sandwich and fries.

Per their IG/FB (from Jan. 7), the kitchen is closed from 3-4 on Saturdays.

You may want to contact them and confirm.
