Reinstated?

Then why reinstate them? You should only reinstate players when they have the same right to see the field as anyone else.
Unless charges are soon to be dropped, which I doubt, I don't agree with CPR at all. I'd say the honeymoon is over...

I have no idea.

Maybe so they can practice and make tacking dummies out of them? I had a coach who did something like that. Two of our guys got into a fight in the lockerroom, and he worked the holy hell out of both of them during practice, in front of everyone. It was borderline brutal. Even made the team captains take a very active part in the workover.

Stretch and different situation - I know. Just sayin'.....

This could be it. They found no substantial amount of anything and if they were clean, that makes it pretty hard to prove since they were "seen" smoking out by the dumpster.

Maybe - but what happened to the reports admitting possession?

Only alternative to that is shoddy reporting. But come on ... it's the Rag! :jimlad:

Admission alone to owning drugs cannot bring any charges.

Iowa fans will (and rightfully should) have a field day with this one. Be prepared. If you have stated Ferentz doesn't discipline players in the past, you better be up in arms over this. Otherwise, youre 100% a hypocrit. Myself, I've stuck by the 'boys will be boys' mantra for both Iowa/ISU/UNI/whoever, and things like alcohol/Marijuana have never bothered me. This will be one more case where it's an outrage if it happens at Iowa, and no big deal if it happens here.

And for those who have piled on about Iowas DE (can't think of his name, Ballard maybe but I think he's a DT now) not getting suspended for punchign a cab driver, remember this incident. 3 players, 2 admitting to using marijuana (and also remember, testing positive for this means not being able to play via NCAA rules I believe) and no punishment is handed to them.

We have no idea on what actually happened. I trust CPR and his decision making.

There must be something more to this. These are serious misdemeanors, which have not been dropped.

Why is everyone using the mat I posted on the first page? Why don't we let the facts come out, THEN burn CPR at the stake. Si?

Just because there were no legal charges does not mean CPR can not punish them. They at least deserve some sort of discipline, for admitting to the possession, even if there is no legal charges.

Yeah, we need an explanation here. If these guys got busted and it's legit, I see no reason why they're reinstated and possibly even playing. I realize you have to let the legal system do its thing, but there needs to be an official statement on this today.

Maybe, but charges aren't a prerequisite for a coach to hand out discipline either. And if he has players who admit to possessing drugs and hands out a 3 day vacation .......

Unless somethings shows that these allegations were wrong - I too will be rather disappointed in CPR.

Truth. See my previous post.

yea lets go to the knee jerk reaction first. We can always apoligize later. Uhmm maybe you know more then the rest of us?

Given Kurt Hammershidt is still suspended given his earlier OWI, then I would assume there is much more to come of this and these guys are clean of any charges. CPR hasn't shown me he'll go soft on them for no reason.

Re: Suspensions over?

Hey, that was quick. Must not have been their seeds. So much for him being so tough and setting an example not seen in this state........

Lost opportunity.

Can we get a confirmation if it was pot or seeds? That is the difference between HAVING marijuana in your possession and someone rolling a joint in your apartment.

If it was seeds and they tested clean then let them off the hook. But if they found a baggy then 1-3 games is suffice.

Did you notice he said "Unless" in there?

For the record here - until it comes from ISU, nothing is saying WHO is right about this either.

There was a nice link to the ISU policy on these sorts of things on this WHO article.

Cyclone Football Players' Suspensions Dropped - WHO

A. CRIMINAL VIOLATIONS OF LOCAL, STATE OR FEDERAL LAWS

LEVEL I. Suspension for Criminal Violations

If the Iowa State University Athletics Department has information which leads it to conclude that a student-athlete has been arrested or charged with a violation of local, state, or federal law involving violence (e.g. rape, assault), theft, drug (e.g. possession, distribution and/or possession with intent to distribute) or major alcohol infractions (e.g. operating a motor vehicle under the influence, supplying liquor to underage person) or felony charges of any kind, the student-athlete shall be automatically suspended from intercollegiate athletics competition and may be suspended from practice. Any suspension imposed remains in effect until charges have been resolved by the legal system, applicable university or departmental disciplinary measures have been issued and/or the department lifts or modifies the suspension. By suspending the student-athlete, the Athletics Department is not prejudging guilt or innocence nor whether department discipline is necessary. Rather, the suspension protects the integrity of the department in instances where a student-athlete has been arrested or charged with a criminal offense.

First Infraction. The student-athlete shall be indefinitely suspended from competition and may be suspended from practice.

Second Infraction. The student-athlete shall be indefinitely suspended from competition and may be suspended from practice.

Third Infraction. The student-athlete shall be dismissed from the team.
