I would not put a lot of stock in a world Greco Gold. Great accomplishment, but I would take a world freestyle medalist
Umm, 100%. In fact, I actually give a negative grade to a world Greco medalist. (Unless heavyweight)

If you followed he’s not just a Greco guy. Was very very close to doubling up, lost in the finals in 3 matches to penn state commit Kasak.
He needs to specialize in freestyle quickly. The risk of winning a Greco world title is that you start to focus too much on it.

I agree that he is not bad at freestyle, but other than Colton Schultz, not many Greco guys excel at folk style. Was Taylor Lamont a Greco guys. Manville boys are, same with the kid that was at Wisconsin

Paulson’s were great at Greco and they did alright as cyclones ;)

There are exceptions to every rule. How many top medal winners after college wrestlers were A.A.'s in college folk style?

So you guys aren’t expecting much from Gaitan? He would have been on World team if he didn’t op out.
I do. The exception with Gaitan and Adams is that they are good at both.

I was referring more to the Greco specialists like Jesse Thielke or the Manvilles
Taylor Lamont is okay in Folk. Jon Jay Chavez was Greco guy and never did anything in Folk.
Just don't real know anybody on the Greco USA team that was very good at D1 folkstyle wrestling except Colton Schultz

I’m not here to advocate for Greco but I am here to talk about talented kids who are equally good at freestyle and folkstyle that would kick ass in a cyclones singlet

I probably came off to critical of Adams & didn't mean to. Fantastic accomplishment whether he ends up good in folkstyle in college or not. I would be happy to have him at Iowa State!

Greco specialist usually don't translate very well to folkstyle.

That’s the good thing. I don’t mind guys wrestling Greco. When they start making world teams is when it becomes and emphasis and focus. That’s when the problems start.

One of the most famous “could’ve beens” was Jake Deitchler had it not been for concussions
Don’t think he would have been much good at folk. Solid too 20 guy, but unlikely AA imo.

Best one recently are heavies:
Coon - NCAA finalist world silver
Schultz - NCAA finalist world teamer/junior champ

Hazewinkle was a 4x AA that made a few Greco teams.

You have some bold takes but you’re wrong here. Here’s a match against one of the goats. He got ridden like a horse for the first couple minutes but after that he battled hard. He was excellent but dealt with a lot of concussion problems. Wasn’t Dake also World class at Greco even though he didn’t wrestle worlds ever? I won’t compare Adam’s to Dake but he does have great defense and athleticism. I think Adams turns into a college stud.
