Recruiting Woes

During the broadcast the announcers were saying Paul Rhodes blamed lack of success on recruiting woes caused by the fact that he can't bring recruits to Ames(and once he does, does well). Not sure I'm completely buying it.... Not only does this team have pretty good talent, but other teams who aren't necessarily in football hotbeds and possibly worse locations, even worse levels(for example ND state and Montana) can field talent just fine. Plus, the basketball team seems to be able to get recruits and JUCO players to visit just fine. What do you all think of this?

Even if it is recruiting woes, who the **** is responsible for recruiting, Paul?

Can people stop fugging comparing our situation to FCS teams?

Rhoads has been given FAR more than any other ISU coach in history to succeed here. It's amazing what JP has been able to do facility-wise here with how bad this team has been over the years.

I'm sick of Rhoads' excuses. I'm sure we'll hear all this week about how bad the officiating was too last night. Maybe JP can make a fool of himself again and criticize the officials in a news conference again to show his support for Paul? Geeeez..... pathetic.

Look at the stats from last night.... we were the far superior football team on the field in terms of talent. That was not the problem. Coaching was.... plain and simple. I've never seen a head coach squander so much potential in a team before. There's almost no way to lose a game when you dominate the stats like we did last night, but Rhoads and company still found a way. Amazing.

Did I hear something that the airport being 45 minutes away is a problem? What.......other universities have airstrips on campus? Outside of a hotel next to the airport.........45 minutes from p/u to destination is nothing.

Yes I agree. Have NDSU go 4-8 for a few years and see how recruiting drops off.

Also, KSU is maybe the only relevant comparison in terms of geography/talent, and they have a top 10 all time coach and they built their program in the 90's. The college landscape has changed significantly. Snyder may not be able to recreate what he did there if he took over today.

It doesn't help that when you fly in during Nov-Feb, recruits see a gray, cordless, snowy field their entire 40 min ride to Ames.

Hasn't he already proven he can?

He took over the same program that he had built previously and had already proven he was a top coach. Plus he came back when we had two divisions and the B12N in particular was really soft. Any coach coming to ISU at this point doesn't have those luxuries.

If that were truly the case then UNLV should be bringing home the hardware in every sport. Bring every recruit in after dark and drive them through the strip.

The fact that CPR was whining about this 100% proved to me that he isn't the guy for the job. I stated this in another post.

So by that Mark Mangino should be able to go back to KU and resurrect that program?

Are you putting Mangino into the same category as Snyder? Come on.

Snyder has a place in college football history whereas Mangino is a small footnote

I think you can win with the talent that he's brought in, he's just not getting it done anymore. Some sort of weird mojo entered this program before that bowl game and it's never looked the same.

But when you look at the offers from the kids we sign and the fact that Iowa has 23 active NFL players, Toledo has 11, ISU has 7, and UNI has 3, maybe it's less coaching and more recruiting.

The talent infused into the roster after last recruiting season needs brought in with every class. Definitely more talent this year & a lot are 1st year players. Need to replicate that every season & also need to embrace technology, alternate jerseys, & playing styles. 1 for 3 on those since last season. Simple things such as the gloves being the new style. Look at the players wearing them - most of our best players. Makes a difference to them it does to me. Right now the O looks like they want to push tempo but someone is holding them back. That right there shows where the division is. Let's not play with large cushions on third downs either. Pitch & catch will kill us now in league play

Let me get this straight.... so Paul Rhoads now wants JP to build an international airport in Ames too?

It's amazing what Paul thinks he needs in order to succeed here. I suppose he wants a retractable dome over the stadium too for when it gets cold outside, right?

Geeeez. Grow a pair Paul. You've been given more than enough support to succeed here and you know it. The excuses must stop.
