RECRUITING: Thik Bol information

Agree with this. Prohm seems to be a good guy but outside of landing malou and Jackson he hasn't done anything to impress me and that goes with coaching too. Not trying to be a downer but maybe he'll do better when he takes the team over and not eun what the players want

Pfft...Malou and Jackson...non-impact role players for sure.

What did you expect from his recruiting?

I expect that since ISU has been good to very good over the last 5 years with good facilities in a P5 conference with exposure (Big Monday games, Gameday last year, nationally televised games), also with an unbelievable home court environment. That should be able to get a fair share of 4* kids to come here with a few 3*, and a 5* once in awhile. That really isn't too much to ask at this point.

Agree, baylor is getting these big recruits and besides weather what do they have on us, home crowd? Hahaha

Also all the sudden Lsu is getting or after top recruits, once again what do they have on us besides weather. Heck they have the best player since durant coming out of college and look what theyve done with it. With our success over the last 5 years and constant exposure and top home courts in the nation im just curious how people aren't interested and signing with the good guys

There are 300+ D1 basketball schools. You're question would be the same for all those teams as there aren't that many who have ever signed a 5 star player. Let CSP get his team on the floor. Let CSP get his system and defensive principles instilled and installed. Great coaching in basketball will trump great talent most every time and I think we have a coach who will prove himself (again) to be in that category.

Im more referring to his coaching. Recruiting is what it is

We all liked Fred because he was Fred. If you take emotions out of it I think Prohm is a better coach than Fred, and will be better for Iowa State in the long run. Granted, I'm not a basketball coach, I'm just a fan who works daily and enjoys turning the TV on and watching them but......I don't think Iowa State beats Colorado, Cincinnati, or Iowa for that matter with Fred coaching. On the contrast not a single of our 3 loses have I thought, if Fred was coach we would have won. Just my opinion.

Ok now that's some funny stuff. At this point yes it is easy to Fred is the better coach. And you are crazy to think they wouldn't have beat any of those three teams with Fred as the coach. Right now you can't even tell how good a coach Prohm is bc the team is basically running itself.

Well...Except only a select number can say they have had 4 straight NCAA appearances, have been consistently ranked the last couple years, are power 5 teams and are constantly playing on national TV.
Coaching does not beat talent. If the talent is close then yeah great coaching can beat the more talented team but you are kidding yourself if you think you don't need talent to be a top college basketball program

Agree, I'll take talent every time, unless I am Dave Rice, then it doesn't matter.

I certainly dont want to get in an argument with you over this but I am highly impressed with Prohm's decisions to call Time Outs. Just take note of that tonight, it has really caught my attention that he elects to take time outs at times when Fred would let his players figure it out or keep playing through it. Again, you are entitled to yours, but that is my opinion: those time out decisions won the Iowa, Colorado, and Cincinnati games for them.

Just take notice of it. I feel Prohm is really strong at that decision making.

Fred was a very good coach and one of the greatest things to happen to ISU but he was a total failure at recruiting his last couple years for a couple of different reasons.

Prohm has his work cut out for him. It's too early to say whether he can recruit at a high enough level, but I can't say I'm real confident based on what I've seen so far.

Hopefully he can develop some diamonds.
I agree with this.Fred is the reason we have no soph and freshman class.
Prohm.......I am reserving judgement, but I am leaning towards him not being a good hire. I have not seen any coaching moves from him yet. I think he has gone overboard letting the players run the team, and I am not impressed with recruiting.......certainly not good enough to be a b12 contender. I think malou is pretty talented, but I think I could have gotten him to sign.....wanted to be a clone for years. Hope I am wrong.

I like the class Coach Prohm put together with the timing of the hire. Fred's first class was pieced together also and a couple of those guys turned out to be pretty Damn good.

Right on. I said it in another thread, but Fred put us in a hole and the way JP handled it I have concerns we just kept digging. Obviously it is so early that I'm am being overly critical.

Some of the dumbest things I have ever read are in this thread. Prohm has lost three games into his first season and he is a bad hire?????? Some of the posters probably thought we could have hired popovich. Fred had 1 recruiting class that is it. The seniors this year. He was to busy applying for every job in the country to do any recruiting. After seeing the Floyd departure the loss of a beloved coach destroys kids and teams. Prohm had to come to Ames and be everyone's best friend and can't coach hard. If someone quits the season is over. Iowa state will always be a very good basketball school. But we are not a blue blood so winning big will be a struggle. 4 and 5 star kids like warm weather and blue bloods. Super high expectations of never losing a game never missing free throws never letting the other team score will only lead to disappointment. Fans on this board need to take a step back watch other teams and realize that all teams lose and miss free throws and do dumb things. College basketball regular season is meaningless. Great teams improve throughout the year and are playing their best basketball at the end.
