RECRUITING: Post Morrow visit update

I wouldn't pencil Race Thompson as a starter. He doesn't appear to be that level of recruit and also they could land Morrow.

Good points. Amending 2018-2019 to something like...

Wigginton
Shayok
Lewis
Morrow
Young
---
Green (or one of the other guards)
Weiler-Babb
Thompson
Lard

I like that top lineup even more as something that could come roaring back.

Which is a major, major miss by he staff, and very disappointing if that's the case. There is no reason next year should be a "rebuilding" year. If it is, it's because the staff failed at filling the class appropriately. And yes that does take into account we have 3 very good freshman in the fold already.

So we should have offered more money to his AAU coach than UNLV did? Is that what you are saying?

Some of you guys are ridiculous...

I just have the feeling we'll be real happy with NWB the next couple years. Missing on our top targets makes him a likely two year starter IMO. He'll have 3 years on Lewis as a RS JR. 166 by 247 composite to Lewis' 111.

Good problems to have, I suppose, at that point.

I figure they will both be heavily in the rotation as wings/swingmen.

Don't even think about the wonderful class balance that Freddy left Prohm with.

Nit picking class balance after a coaching change is pretty ridiculous, especially given the fact that Prohm inherited such a good team. For most coaching changes, the new guy inherits a roster with little talent or a program that is a total mess or has just bottomed out.

But I also disagree with the other poster that next year can't be a rebuilding year. Every program has them. We are overdue for one.

The vast majority have them. There are a few where rebuilding still means NCAA tourney.

Yep. Next season has looked like a rebuilding year all along... I had some hope we would reload and still be in tournament, but that hope hinged on this spring's class and hitting on our top targets. After missing on guys like Juiston and Brown, I am viewing next year as a rebuilding year again. We'll have a couple transfers sitting out, and the younger players will get a lot of playing time.

He did inherit a good team, there was also no bench depth due to a 2 year recruiting hiatus more or less thus having to fill over 50% of the scholarships.

The other option might have been to not do grad transfer thing last spring and instead focus on transfers who had to sit out, thus balancing things out more.

And hindsight being 20/20 might have been the wise move given the contribution grad transfers made last year.

But then again the barbarian's would have been at the gate, freaking out about not getting grad transfers to support the 4 seniors this past year. But also Prohm realized he had parts for another good run and tried to supplement with 2 guys that on paper looked like they could contribute solid minutes.

ISU will still have 2 very good guards, a more experienced Young. Team may take a step back, but given they play defense now, they should be competitive. You may have 3 freshmen see the court all at the same time, 3 top 125 kids, so would hope they all can contribute.

Might surprise, might win only 11 games, expectations will be based on the latter, if they exceed that all the more fun.

Leaving us with only two senior big men is not exactly nit picking class balance. The cupboard at forward was completely empty after the graduation of Niang and McKay. Prohm had to take some chances on some risky recruits, and they didn't pan out. Now he's getting the high school bigs that Fred should have been getting, but they're going to take a year or two to develop.

Disagree re bowie not panning out. Not sure we win Big XII tourney or vs Nevada without him.

If we get Marrow, I hope we at least land a respectable juco or two, or leave a scholly open for midyear transfers.

Morrow is huge. But I'm not as sold on him becoming a Cyclone as I was a few weeks ago. Hope he commits soon, cause that would be a huge relief if we could land him.
