RECRUITING: Pelle not visiting this weekend

Please don't take this wrong, but personally, I don't appreciate some of the unsubstantiated rumors about this poor kid that SD State fans have posted on this board. Some people here take every single one seriously.

Our coach knows what is going on, and that's all that really matters.

Well said. The only thing we could accurately say is that Pelle is an enigmatic person. We don't really know what the hell is going on. There is no solid info.

For the record, at least one SDSU fan said as much (not a bad kid, mysterious forces in family/ social life, etc.)
 
I guess I shouldnt jump to conclusions. The only thing I'm really basing my opinion on is things I've read on here and twitter. I hate it when people have negative posts about cyclone athletes and recruits and that's exactly what I've done. I really do hope he comes here and is successful.

No worries. I understand when opposing team’s fans pop in and give you information. Not always reliable and at the end of the day the coaching staff has more information and it’s their call. SDSU fans have followed this since before he de-committed from St. John’s because that’s when the story first came out he wanted to transfer to SDSU because of the location, Fisher & co and his relationship with some players/recruits. Don’t remember off the top of my head if it was a week or two or a month after that story he de-committed. We have some excellent reporters working the recruiting sites and have tons of alumni with solid connections into the LA high school basketball and AAU circuits.

You can go to the SDSU Rivals and Scout sites and pay the subscription to read up on the latest from the Norvel saga. They aren’t too expensive. He did an interview with them from Vegas so you can watch that and read the other articles as follow up. You’ll see what coaches were there to watch him, what coach watched him the most, who’s his Top 5, what highly ranked recruit was there to watch him and recruit him, and what he had to say about qualifying. You should also be able to see talk about his step back 3 and what he said and his AAU coach thought about it. Remember these were for recruiting services that follow SDSU so ignore some information because he has to play that up a little. There’s also speculation about his chances of qualifying now compared to a few months but please read the information there.

He’s a good kid with great talent and if he works hard and stays patient could be a lottery pick. I think a poster above mentioned the question marks.

In your opinion, does he end up at SDSU?
 
St. John's tried to get Pelle and two other top prospects eligible by stashing them in a "friendly" Philly prep school overr the summer where all three otherwise non-qualified prospects amazingly all received A's in each of the three courses they took. That didn't sell with the NCAA, and apparently another year in school hasn't remedied the problem for Pelle.

I have no problem with schools pursuing players with academic shortcomings. Sometimes the light goes on in college and they graduate. Sometimes just being in college and being exposed to the learning environment and the help that is available to athletes is very good for them even if they don't earn a degree. But I have no respect for the kind of tactics Lavin and St. John's used to try to slide these kids by initial eligibility requirements.

What, didn't you think that Steve was paying attention on how to do things in all his years at UCLA? I have no doubt that Steve has never seen a rule he wasn't willing to bend.

Too early to tell. He hasn't made any official visits. Too many factors and outside influences. You could see someone at say Kansas suffer a major injury this offseason or be ruled ineligible due to academics and then all of a sudden they enter the picture and that changes everything. Until he takes some visits I'd say SDSU is the favorite only because he's been on campus, attended a game and has friends on the team. After he visits it's anyones guess because one thing this process has shown is that nothing is ever certain until he's seen on campus.

Looks like Okie Light is fixing to make a purchase.
 
This is the Sketchiest recruitment in a long time. New schools pop up and go away really fast. He is highly ranked yet none of the big guys were interested until recent. Strange. That being said. I would take him in a heartbeat.

Nothing strange about it. His recruitment is sketchy because of his shaky academic profile and it will likely remain that way. If he plays college ball next season, it will probably be at a JUCO.
