RECRUITING: Elijah Brown to Oregon

Zags isn't a blue blood and won't be imo. Their coach is excellent but their small conference affiliation and small school in the NW location won't allow for the exposure. They are extremely lucky that Few has stayed and rejected more prestigious jobs to build their name. Actually much like WSU going to AAC this would be the time to jump up a conference (MWC?) to continue their rise it is capped now. Let's remember they had one loss and a lot of experts wanted them dropped from a 1 seed due to their weak schedule.

The Zags are a very respectable team and totally understand Elijah going to play for Few. I'd still argue that if he wants to best enhance his pro prospects ISU is a better fit. Much easier to get scouts to evaluate your game playing against KU/OU/WV's rather than St.Mary's/Pacific/SFU. Also an underrated selling point is Prohm's development of PG and getting them into the NBA. Few doesn't have that track record.

LOTS of talent in the NBA from Gonzaga. If your talented, you will be scouted by the NBA regardless of what team you play or who your competition is. Zags play plenty of high major teams so film is there. PLUS - when you put as many pros in the league as the Zags have, no chance a kid gets passed over by the NBA playing in eastern WA.

ISU doesn't give any kid more chances to play pro than does Gonzaga. None.

Spokane is almost 1,000 miles from San Francisco. That's like saying a player from Houston, TX would choose Iowa State to be closer to his family. He's only going to be at his next destination for 9-10 months anyway. I don't think location plays a very big role.

But Spokane to SanFran is a non-stop flight of about 2 hours and no time changes. Way easier to get around on the west coast when you are on the west coast.

In the past 5 years there are not 20 other programs that have had the overall sucess that ISU has had in bball...NCAA tournament..rankings..Beating ranked teams...etc..When u lay out all the parameters ISU has been a top 20 program the past 5 years.

Its not just about 1 year. If Georgetown had gone to say a FF 5 years agao but the other 4 years had a losing season to u think a single recruit would care right now? No..ISU has been one of the more consisten top 20 programs the past 5 years and that exposure year after year after year starts to pay off.

Uh-oh. We're in trouble. Time to bring back the shirts with blue in them.

I'm not saying, I'm just saying. That was the furthest we have ever gotten in the NCAA tournament......

If you want to recapture the furthest ISU has ever gotten in the tournament, you'd better put these uni's on the squad:

ISU and Gonzaga have the same amount of players drafted since 2012

Olynyk, Sabonis, and Wiltjer. Georges and Abdel for ISU with Bryce getting a contract without getting drafted. No such type for Gonzaga.

Prohm should get credit for Canaan and Payne abd increasing the profile of Nadar and Niang. Plus Monte got AA honors and projected draft pick likely would be selling points.
It should be noted that GU's NBA talent are front court players.

I'm sure he and the rest of the staff are selling that angle hard. Or at least they should be.

If he's just looking for winning games and being somewhere familiar to him Gonzaga would be the natural pick. Iowa winters would not be desirable. But if playing in a good conference, great arena with great fan support then ISU would be the place to go.

Again, how is Spokane Washington familiar to him?

Ok, so a recruit from Dallas, with non-stop flights to Des Moines would choose Iowa State over Gonzaga, because of their "proximity?". Keep in mind Brown will probably only travel home 2-3 times during his 9-10 month stay at whatever college he ends up at. There are many reasons he could go to Oregon or Gonzaga, I would be shocked if being closer to San Francisco is one of them.
