Recruit Lists v2.0

My guess is it's lack of 5 star/ top 50 guys we're going after, who can more afford to drag it out because spots will be held open for them.

I'm pretty sure this is it. I think it's the norm for most players in this range to commit and then sign in the early signing period in October.

Even if we miss on all the recruits we know about currently for 2016, I feel like we're in good shape.

I remember him saying I another article that he would play Niangs spot and espn called Niang a SF once. Maybe that's it. I assumed Burton would play the three. Malou on one side and Burton on the other, both at the three point line playing similar positions, would be very hard to guard. Talk about combo mismatch.

Yeah, I agree. The Goofs under Pitino had a good 1st year - but were tied at 10th in the B1G last year. This leads me to wonder if Daddy P has been helping him out (directly or indirectly). There is a fraternity of coaches and wonder if the Pitino name just happens to open up a ton of more doors than a typical coach (even ones who have much more experience and success than a son of a coaching legend). How could you experience the Barn and then experience Hilton, analyze the past 5 years, and still pick Minny over the Clones or another equally successful program? Doesn't make a lot of sense.

Just the name pitino has to do wonders in recruiting

He said he would play a 3 in the WRNL interview.

He may have said that, but even if Morris goes, we're basically guaranteed to have 3 starters between Jackson, Cooke, Thomas and Burton. So he will likely have to play the 4 or 5 for us.

All that means essentially is that he will have to guard the 4/5, because in Prohm's system, he will probably play offense similar to Niang, which is more like a traditional 3. He will be a point-forward type, that can create offense and has perimeter and post games.

Defensively, I think he'll be fine guarding posts, because he's supposed to be a really efficient shot blocker and he's 6'9". Plus he will probably force a lot of teams to play small anyway, because most traditional big men will not be able to keep up with him. We see that all the time with Niang.

Burton can play 2-4 offensively and defensively even if he's short. He might not be our best player, but he's very versatile with his athleticism.

Right now we have a lineup of Morris (he will stay), Cooke (a player I think a lot of us are overlooking. He was the Pac-12 FOTY and will be great), Burton, and Malou, with the 5th spot up for grabs. I'm not sure how good Carter or Ernst will actually be, which is why my wish list is a big man since we really need one. If Thomas gets that 5th starting spot, that means we will have a tiny lineup. Who's our best option at PF or C that you guys think will be able to walk in and start in 2016-17? Since it looks like we are on the outside looking in with Curry, is Tyler Cook the only other big man we are really in the mix for right now?

We're not in the mix for Tyler Cook at all.

Matt Thomas?

You are out of your mind if you think Cooke will start over Thomas next year....

If Cooke is back to health he can be a really dynamic player, I wouldn't be that sure about what you just said.

Plus, it may not be an either/or situation.

No. Hallice Cooke was Pac-12 FOTY and definitely will be starting unless Thomas proves himself. So far Thomas hasn't impressed anyone. Hallice is a better scorer, dribbler, passer, defender, and finisher than Thomas right now. I hope MT proves that he's the better one this year because he certainly isn't right meow.

It's way too early to say either way, who will be better, IMO. Cooke is coming off of injury, which could mean it takes him half of the year to shake off the rust.

Thomas has shown he can be a really good player at times, but other times he struggles. He looked great against UAB and has at other times as well.
