Recruit Lists v2.0

We have plenty of bigs on the roster for the 14-15 season. With our last two scholarships, we need a 3 like Clark and then we need a scoring guard.

6''5" to 6'7" are not bigs. We need a 6'10" banger that can rebound, score, block shots and step out and hit threes. A Homan, Alexander, Van Der Beak combo.

a 6'10" rim detector who can shoot from the outside? Hard to believe we can't land a player that EVERYONE wants....
Sorry, that level of athlete is like landing a 4-5 star DT in football. I will be happy with McKay, Nader, Niang and Malou.

I can detect the rim at 5'9". Maybe a rim protector would be better.

Did someone say they want Jamie Vanderbeken?

I loved him, but that dude had the worst height - ability to rebound ratio in the history of mankind.

6'11" averaging 5 boards a game his senior year.

Another Kato would be good.

I was was thinking about the depth chart and barring any unforseen changes, ISU looks to be set at a starting rotation after this year. (I am projecting a majority of games started over the next two years). I think Nader and Hogue flip between SF and PF depending on matchups, not sure who starts but both will play starters minutes next year.
2014-2016
PG - Monte Morris 4* - Soph/Jr, Clayton Custer 4* - Fr/Soph.
SG - Matt Thomas 4* - Soph/Jr, SDW 3*, Naz Soph/Jr
SF - Abdel Nader 3* - Jr., Hogue - SR (Not sure who starts)
PF - Georges Niang 4* - Jr., Gipson SR
C - Jamal McKay 4* - RS Jr, Edozie SR.

From this perspective the line-up is pretty set for the next 2 years. I think Fred will look to target SF and PF/C with the last two scholarships in '14. He's probably looking more of an impact from who he brings in 2 years from now (i.e. Transfer or RS HS IMO), that is unless a post Grad PF/C is an option and is okay with coming of the bench (like a Tarik Black type).

Lol at the poster that says Fred needs to get more bigs next year.

Nader, Niang, Hogue, McKay, and likely Malou. I think we're set on bigs. Just need an SF and an SG.

I don't think you know what "bigs" actually means. Nader is 6'6''. Niang is 6'7''. Hogue is 6'7''. McKay is pushing the short side of 6'8''.

You need a couple guys in the 6'10'' range.

Just looking at that list, Baylor is in on a bunch of top 30 guys list. How is that even possible? Man Drew can get in on great highly ranked players. Just amazing really. Then there is us, a school with a great basketball culture, great fan base, great coach, ect...and we are nowhere on anyone like except for Diallo.

Do not underestimate the power of religion. The simple fact Baylor is a Baptist school gets him into lots of doors.

Short side of 6'8"? And Nader is 6'7" with a 7' wing span.
And no we don't "need" someone 6'10". It would be nice to get a guy that big with similar attributes as Niang but those guys are rare and are also on everyone else's list.
Last I checked, ISU was ranked. Did I miss the memo where they were not?

I am Very Happy with what we have for next year. And that does not even take into account that Fred has seemed to find great fits for his teams every year. I have no doubt that he will bring in a solid contributor with the remaining scholarship + bank one for an impact transfer.

With all that said, we have a great team this year. I am going to enjoy, then hype next year in the offseason.

Oh, you mean Anthony Davis? The ones that play PG their whole life then grow 9-10 inches in a year? Those are a dime a dozen.

We have a couple of bigger guys that don't play (Gibson & Edozie). We only want guys in that 6'10'' range if they can run the floor and not cause problems with our spacing. Those that have talked about getting a bruiser inside aren't going to be right, that goes against everything Fred tries to do with spacing. If we can't get the top 6'10'' athletic shot blocker types (they seem to always go to Syracuse), then Fred would rather go undersized with skilled bigs that can shoot/handle the ball and draw the other team's bigs away from the basket.

Fred is all about spacing and matchups.
