Totally agree and to be completely honest I'm not sure we wouldn't be better off in the SHORT-TERM with him given he'd have 2 years to play (Rashad is set on being a 1 and done) and him being older and having played against older more experienced players already.

Now, with that being said the impact/perception in the long-term of adding the #1 ranked shooting guard for ISU's image cannot understated. I have no doubt that RV would thrive next year too so both are great options.

Imo, he would be a good get even if we do land Vaughn.

A lot of D1 talent on the floor last night for IHCC vs IWCC. The game can be watched here.

-Besides Bobbitt, Medord (Baylor signee) led IHCC with 23 on four 3Ps. Winters (Washington commit) has 17 points with three 3Ps. Roosevelt Scott (ASU), IHCC's leading scorer on the year was held to 12 points.

-Williams for IWCC did have 24 points, but on 7-23 shooting (10-13 FTs).
-Manyang, a class of 2015 7-footer for IHCC had 13 (7-8 FTs), Washington (2015 IHCC post) had 7 points, and Dime (6'9" shoot-blocker) had only 4.
 
Would people actually rather have Bobbitt, a JUCO transfer, over Vaughn, a guy who is already tabbed a first round pick in the NBA draft? Clyburn wasn't drafted, DG wasn't drafted. You would pass over a guy that the NBA thinks is much better than those two?

Not me but if you're referring to my post above I was simply stating an opinion about short term player impact. The NBA drafts mostly on potential and while RV is a stud, there's a chance that Bobbitt could make a bigger impact in terms of wins/losses over a 2 year period. RV would obviously make a bigger impact as far as brand/perception of ISU hoops.

Just taking a leap of faith that Bobbitt would possibly be ready to contribute at a higher level (initially) than Vaughn.

No because there's long term intangible recruiting benefits from signing a player like Vaughn, but in terms of real production, it's entirely possible that Bobbitt is as good or better in 2014-15.

I think 99 out of 100 people would choose RV, but if we miss or even if we don't, Bobbitt might be a great fit for what we need next year.

I like Bobbitt, but I don't see that. Roosevelt Scott maybe, but not Bobbitt.
Scott and Medford are probably better right now, but IIRC Bobbitt did not play basketball last year, so he may still be getting back in the flow. He is a streaky shooter.

Speaking of juco guards, I am surprised Southeastern's two sophomore guards, Jones and Stevens, are not getting high-major looks. Those guys can score. Jones is a little like McGee.
 
I'd take both Bobbitt and Vaughn, but anyone who would sooner take Bobbitt over Vaughn is insane. Andrew Wiggins may not be having the impact many thought he would, ON PAPER, but watch their games. He opens up the court so much more for his teammates.
 
Jucos tend to take a year to make a big impact too. Hogue is the exception, not the rule. Vaughn isn't guaranteed to be one and done either. Sure he wants to now, what basketball player in HS doesn't WANT that? People change their minds all the time. The following years team is just as loaded...he could easily want to come back for a championship if he's loving the team and didn't get it year one.
 
I got the 411 on Malou last night. He's coming to ISU next year as a grayshirt to work on his grades. Won't be able to practice with the team but he can work out with the coaches. He was going to play on the Australian national team but decided to come to the US. Minnesota Timberwolves were interested in him until he hurt his knee. Total stud, can play the 1-4.

If this is true, I don't see him ever play for ISU. Just my opinion.

So he wouldn't actually be on the team until 2015?

That's the first gray shirt that I've ever heard of for basketball. Interesting.

Will he need an entire calendar year to get things in order making him basically part of the 2015 class?

Why? That's the right move for someone that is trying to gain eligibility, IMO. Certainly shows better long term decision making than trying to go straight to the pros.

I agree it's a long shot, but it's always been that, so I don't see how this would make it less likely.

Totally valid opinion. Someone could offer him a chance to play right away and take the risk he wont make grades or the grayshirt thing couldn't work out etc.
 
So if he grey shirts would he be eligible the second semester or does he have to sit out the whole year. Unkown territory in basketball. Usually it's football and there is no second semester football.

Probably because we won't have a scholly for him. Most kids would go juco. Surprised he hasn't the last 2 years. He would be eligible by now. Unless he really wants 4 years of D1 eligability. This would keep him under the radar for sure. Hope he succeeds in the classroom.
 
My reasoning is this: If the kid is truly as good as advertised and he gets to learn from Fred for a year, he'll most likely throw his hat in the ring for the draft or go play-for-pay elsewhere. Especially, if his grades aren't very good. Maybe I'm wrong and he sticks around.
