Recruit Lists v2.0

Don't have time to look through the whole thread, but where do people think we stand with Illikainen, or are we even going hard after him anymore? Just had an interesting conversation with my boss about him.

tease.

Apparently, my boss' wife has a family member on Alex's team and happened to become friends with Alex on Facebook. He messaged her a while back and wanted to know what she knew about ISU. He mentioned that Fred had visited him and his parents and he wanted to know if Fred was as genuine as they thought.

My boss and his wife are both ISU fans and basically told him, I don't want to break any rules, but let me know what I can do to help bring you to Ames. Any info he needs, getting him hooked up with a good church, etc. Apparently he wants a small town atmosphere for when he goes to college.

Good stuff. If they have any questions about rules they should contact compliance. Rules don't have to be logical to exist so even church hunting on behalf of a recruit could be taboo.

Who the hell is this Malou kid? Not seeing a rivals so I'm assuming he's not from the US?
He moved to the US from Australia, I believe. It is difficult to find a lot of information on him at this time.

I wonder if Malou may be an actual silent commit and CFH doesn't want anyone else to find him so he told him to wait. As soon as a recruiting site or other college coaches see CFH take a guy like this they will be looking into him too.

Keep him almost literally under the radar and keep him yours. Sneaky good tactic by the staff if Malou is legit.

If the relationship between your boss' family and Alex have been established for a while then wouldn't it not be illegal for them to help him? Kind of like Rashad Vaughn and Pete Kaffey. It's not illegal if a relationship was set before college. Something along those lines.

Yeah, I don't know exactly how all of the rules work. Sounds like they have known each other for a while. The family has had other kids on the team, as well, so they have known Alex since he was in 8th grade and playing varsity.

Malou's own twitter is loaded with Iowa State buzz over the last 24 hours. Gotta think some sort of news would be out soon.
Hines' mailbag. I asked him if he ever figured out anything on the Malou situation and he said, "glad you asked. I did." It's supposed to be out sometime today.

Good deal man, I had asked on that too and saw Hines had responded to someone (must've been you) on Malou. I was looking for his article earlier. Hoping for good news!

Some other things on Malou:

- He worked out with the Timberwolves last year.

- He attended an Iowa State practice before the season.
I asked him if that was his visit and he said "nah, I just went to their practice. I can't wait to take a visit though!"

-Cornell Mann now follows him on Twitter.

I think you are correct in that no one has a clue where he is at academically, but his prep school seems a bit sketchy. I am aware that ABCD placed a player at James Madison last year and hope Malou comes here as well. I think he would be a huge get and could be a great player. I think it is odd that none of their players have profiles, however. Kingdom Hoops Prep and Quakerdale both have websites (not that having a website makes you totally legit), and I do know that Quakerdale's players do have Rivals profiles. I am not sure about Kingdom Hoops. ABCD did have a website and then their schedule disappeared, and now their website has disappeared. Maybe it isn't that big of a deal and I do know that many of you know a lot more about basketball recruiting than I do. Maybe there is a lot of red tape for a rivals profile.

Read this article and it will help explain why Malou is questionable to become eligible at ISU:

Controversy still follows Glendon Alexander, this time through his basketball academy | Dallas Morning News

So what exactly is Malou's deal? How old is he? Would he be a freshman?

Mysterious at best, sketchy at worst. Not holding my breath on this one. As long is it never ends up costing ISU anything...

He would be a freshman. His deal is that he came to the United States because of the better opportunities to play basketball. Pretty motivated kid if you ask me. I do not know why he went the ABCD Prep route as opposed to a regular high school or prep school. I am guessing the lower costs and logistics are big reasons.

I thinks it's going to end up being whether he qualifies academically/if his credits all transfer.

Hell be be a good player wherever he ends up, hope it's at ISU.

With the rumor that he announced for the NBA Draft last year, and worked out with the TWolves, doesn't that DQ him from NCAA play?
