The last few articles about Travis say Standford, MSU are in the lead and now Duke is making a push. After those three Minnesota maybe the fourth.
Another thing to note is Fred did not watched Travis play the last recruiting period (stayed in Las Vegas to watch Vaughn, Macura and others).
If we could pull Vaughn, I would be fine with a juco/transfer as the 3rd scholly. Johnson/Cunningham/macura would be great too, but I would not be concerned knowing we return most of the team back while adding Vaughn, Custer and Nader.
If we don't get one of these High school bigs I would have no problem waiting it out and taking a transfer big or a Juco big.
Not sure the rumored visit (Reid Travis) for UNI game is correct, as he is supposed to be on official to UCLA that weekend instead

More worried about Louisville than the in-state schools. From his quotes it seems like he's keeping Michigan and MSU on his list just because they're the in-state schools.
I saw recent articles and Iowa State isn't mentioned at all, it's Stanford, Mich St., Minnesota, Gonzaga, Ucla. He will take officials to those schools it looks like but Duke has started to come into the picture because of his relationship with Tyus Jones

They never mention ISU in any articles. For some reason they always leave us out. Like we are not a real player. I remember reading an article posted about Matt Thomas that Wisky and Virginia were recruiting him very hard. No mention of us. That was like a month or two before he commited to us.
It's like they went out of there way to not mention us.
I would hope we still could make more offers for PF's but maybe that ship has sailed. I realize that most players have already made connections and may laugh at someone coming in late, but what do we have to lose? I mean, Macura was JUST offered by Cincinnati and Vanderbilt, so surely there is some PF's out there, too, that are on the rise and we could come in and extend an offer that could possibly intrigue a recruit. I don't know if our coaches see it as beneficial or a waste of time. Just curious. This whole recruiting season makes me think how fortunate we were to even hang on to Georges. But, I'm not antsy or anything...lol
I'm starting to get the idea that Fred is not going to offer big project-type players just to fill scholarships. Rather aim high (Top 100 guys) and if you miss - take JuCos and transfers in the late spring. You'll get a player more likely to contribute, and you'll turnover that scholarship spot (for another shot at an elite prep) a lot faster.
Im kind of getting that feeling as well. It seems to be big name contributor or bust.
This is exactly how I feel as well. He's doing it like an NBA coach would manage a roster.
Why pay a guy to play in the D-league for 3 years in hopes he produces in the fourth when you could sign a journeyman free agent (who's a known commodity) as a one year stop gap each year instead.
It makes total sense. Why put a scholarship out there for a guy you HOPE develops when there are a ton of Juco guys and transfers that have already been vetted against higher competition than high school guys? There is a lot more certainty in what you have when you sign a Juco than there is when you reach on a high school guy.
Works for me. Swing for the fences on the high school studs and fill in the rest with proven solid transfers or Juco's. It's not like Hoiberg is recruiting scrub transfers either.
I get your point, and agree with it. Makes sense. Although, that's how we ended up signing Amardi and we all know how that turned out. So, all I'm saying is, that we probably better assume his scenario could happen again or on the flipside, we shouldn't get antsy if we don't fill both remaining 2014 scholarships in November. Whomever our next top 100 true 'big' is that commits, whatever year that happens again, will probably be worshipped. : ) Not enough Mercedes in the lot to go around.

but the "nice" part about Amardi (if he would have made it to campus) was that he was gone in one year. He likely would have contributed (but wouldn't be great), and also gave us a '14 spot too.

Agree. Hate to look back now, but thinking we sure could have used him. Plus the extra 2014 'ship. Others being already enrolled and on campus just left him the odd man out.
