Recruit Lists v2.0

Wondering if that MSU article actually has anything on Josh Cunningham going to MSU, or he's just guessing because its MSU.

So, how does a staff decide who and when? I mean, if Vaughn is still possible, do you accept a commitment (hypotheically right now) from someone like Macura? If Abu is still possible, do you accept a commitment (also hypothetical example) from someone like Johnson or Cunningham? I wouldn't begin to know how to best play out these recruiting games.

They won't turn Johnson or Cunningham away and I doubt they would have offered Macura if they weren't ready to accept his commitment.

I would assume that if CFH offered that he see's any recruit as fit and takes him. ISU probably has 20+ offers for out 14, the staff will has a plan.
There is too much turnover from year to year to worry about oversigning a year in the future.
Anyways, Macura is just starting to get some high major offers so I doubt he would commit too soon.

After looking at analysis of Cunningham, Abu, Johnson, Quadri Moore...would love to have any of them commit soon, but imagine its a long waiting game yet. Also, does anyone know if the staff has basically been informed by Vaughn that we're a longshot and to move on? Jw

I highly doubt it. Vaughn seems intent on letting his recruitment play out. Besides, ISU has a legit shot with Vaughn.

I agree. I think Vaughn is the first tier recruit ISU has the best chance with. Not leaders by any means, but I think we'll make the short list, sort of like FSU was for Wiggins. Hopefully with different result. Not based on any info, just a hunch.

If that's the case, I don't see how we could accept a commit from say Macura, for example, knowing we need a post player , too, and just in case Vaughn could eventually commit. Lot of shooting guards on roster then.

There may be some conditions to the offer(s). I'd love to be a fly on the wall.

How many more 6'4'' 2 guards do we need? I'll take players who can play, but the team is currently trending toward eventually starting 5 2 guards, none greater than 6'4'' in height.

3 so we can field that starting 5 next year.

Yeah. Like I know usually if a school is only planning on taking 1 post players, they will let the offered post players know. I'm sure coaching staffs have all sorts of things that go along with the offer.

I wonder if telling other recruits that they're taking 1 post player as you say, (or even mention its first come-first serve) if that is a good way to get a commit or its just the reverse and it makes them uncomfortable and backs them off a little? Just curious.

At some point it makes sense to take lower ranked bigs than a higher ranked guard.

Get what you're saying, but those higher ranked guards are tough to turn away, I assume. Just wish we could close on Abu. I want. lol

It really varies from recruit to recruit. The best recruiters can get a read on what type of pitch each recruit will respond to. If a coach thinks he'll be able to pressure a guy into committing, he will.

Vaughn is a player that you make a spot for regardless. Even if that means an uncomfortable conversation with a benchwarmer. It sounds like the coaches want 1-2 more wings. If Cunningham were to commit, the coaches would probably pull the offers of all guards but their top targets (Vaughn). The same goes for Macura and any other future guard offers. That's my (possibly wrong) read on it anyway.

Realize we have Thomas on the team this year, and Grandstaff as a high priority for 2015, but what other "shooting guards" do we have a huge desire for besides Vaughn (and maybe now Macura) for the class for 2014?
