Recruit Lists v2.0

My point is, unless he's planning on playing at a mid-major, he's going to have to face some decent competition. He's probably not going to be intimidated by the #125th recruit from two years ago if he's worth anything.

And my point is JP is the 126th rated recruit this year. And SDW has two years under Fred. What am I missing?

The fact is, that neither one of them has proven anything related to how good they will be in the B12. I'm positive SDW isn't intimidated by JP Macura, and I'm sure JP Macura isn't intimdated by SDW.

I'm not sure you're missing anything, but I don't see why Macura would be intimidated by an unproven redshirt either.

Seeing as we have a good stable of young guards, I would go for the homerun in vaughn, along with a good big. If we strike out on Vaughn, then bank it or find a good transfer. Idk though, maybe hoiberg has equal value in all the guards he's offered. Guess we'll find out

I agree... why not go after Vaughn? if we don't get him, Freddie has proven he can do pretty good in the transfer market!

There may be another school with less competition at his "positions". I never said or thought he was scared. He's already said it will be a factor.

I think we're making too much of his comment.

obviously it's "something"...
...but it's not like Xavier and Butler don't get good players. At some point every player has to balance their desire to play quickly, with the competitiveness of the program. Again, every kid faces this type of decision. There certainly could be a situation where he falls into a good program with miraculously 0 - 2 SGs/ Wings, but he might also opt to play for a particular coach, or to be close (or farther) from home, or a certain style of offense, or on a team that can make deep tourny runs... Etc, etc, etc.

I think style of offense will usually win the day.
There's always someone already there and coach is always trying to recruit over everybody.

Even IF JP commits to ISU, Fred will still be recruiting Vaughn. ISU has two scholarships open next year I would expect both to be filled when the MBB season starts. If RV decides to come to Ames in the late signing period there will be a place for him (not speculation on how or who just there will be roster spot).

@TravisHines21: MT @tchoopsczar: (Rashad) Vaughn's crew just walked in at 5 min past scheduled tip. Fred Hoiberg here

Sounds like RV has some handler$$$

I used to think that would be the case, but not so much anymore if Macura or Cunningham would commit this fall.

In this context his crew was he and his teammates.

I think his folks are his handlers, and they might just be ISU's biggest asset when it's all said and done, because it appears they wouldn't mind RV staying somewhat regional and they have good heads on their shoulders.

Or he meant "crew" as in the rest of the team, but take it how you want.

This is my gut feeling as well. Fred has had the longest standing relationship with his parents...

Update from last nights Pulley/BABC game, both looked pretty impressive going up against each other.

I get the idea the staff may be making a late push for Reid Travis... Personally my money is still on Stanford or UCLA as the favorite, but intresting that he is recently mentioning ISU in contention again. (for a quite a while I didn't see him citing ISU).

"Travis got his production done through physical play. The 6-foot-8 post player finished through contact in traffic, attacked the offensive glass with intensity and generally outworked the opposition, earning unofficial game MVP honors in the win. With a slew of college coaches in attendance to watch, the buzz around the gym was that not only does Travis continue to get bigger, stronger and more athletic on the court, but he's becoming a much more consistent scorer with his back to the basket.

After the game, Travis mentioned Minnesota, Michigan State, Gonzaga, UCLA, Stanford, Georgetown and Iowa State as the schools who are standing out on his list the most right now.

Colson might work just as hard as Travis in the game, but the 6-foot-6 power forward prefers to start out of the short corner or mid-post, where he's equally efficient as a short-range jump-shooter or someone who can take opposing big men to the rim off of a couple of dribbles. The Rhode Island native finds ways to score around the rim using his body and the ability to finish over either shoulder, making up for a lack of explosion and length.

After the game, Colson listed Miami (Fla.), Florida State, Butler, Notre Dame, Iowa State, UConn and Georgetown as schools which he is seriously considering at the moment."

Fingers crossed our class consists of Custer, Vaughn, Travis (sounds somewhat encouraging from the quote above), and Abu/Johnson/O'Mara (one of the three). That would easily be a top ten recruiting class.

Could be his parents...could be some coaches/recruiters...could be the team. I think crew puts an emphasis on probably everyone. He pry has an entourage by now.

It would be sick to have a class of Custer, Vaughn, and by the late posting about Reid Travis (put us back into consideration). Are Vaughn and Travis friends at all?? The late trending of college players is talk of package deals like the NBA (Jones and Okafor). Travis looked like a beast in the AAU game last night. He looks like he can run the floor really well for his size.

One has to think Fred will land at least 1 of these top guys he is gunning for. Custer is a solid get, a couple more would be perfect.

Abu cut his list to 10...
@HoopDreamsmag: Abdul Malik Abu Final 10:
