The following commitment tweet is fr a player that ISU was never involved in...

@Diamond_Stone33: I Am Committing To The University Of Maryland⚫️ #Terps

The topic I want to bring to conversation is this...

@GoodmanESPN: Shoe companies often matter. Diamond Stone is an Under Armour kid. Maryland the flagship UA program.

What does that mean "Under Armour kid"? Like he likes that brand the best? Like being a Toys R' Us kid?

From what I can gather, yes, he just likes the brand.

Edit: UA may also be a sponsor of some team/tourney/league he played in? The Under Armour Association.

Well I was just thinking watching the Louisville/NC State game that if I was a recruit I wouldn't go to either of those schools because their uniforms are freaking terrible and Adidas is about as cool as Russel Athletic at this point. You're going to have to wear that crap for 4 years I'd definitely take that aspect in to account.

Most of the camps over the summer, usually have some corporate shoe brand tied to it. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it runs deeper than just being his 'preferred brand'.

I still don't think Malou is real.
Such a weird recruitment but all he does is puts up stats. Averaging 15 and 9 and shooting 47% from 3 for a 6-9 guy. If he ever ends up playing in college I have a feeling he's going to be really good. Gonzaga is good at finding under the radar guys. He'd be another if he went there.

This is correct.
AAU coaches get a lot of money from brands (Nike, Adidas, UA). Coaches conveniently push their kids to schools with the same affiliation.

You may have heard about the recruitment of Antonio Blakely this year. Played on a Nike team, committed to Louisville (Adidas), then decommitted and ended up at LSU.

For what it's worth, Iowa state is Nike. From what I can tell, cheick is Nike too. Ku is Adidas. Uk and Pitt are both Nike.
