Reception in IC..

When I was in Iowa City in 2008 some a-hole in the parking garage near the hospital tried dropping a lawn dart in the stroller while my 3 y.o. daughter was in it.

A cub scout helped guide us to our gate but stinkpalmed my wife when she thanked him.

After the game someone had set fire to my truck and there were "no suspects" according to the police.

Obviously, you don't get it. Assault is when someone strikes you FIRST. And thanks for saying something I didn't tell him to do . . strike FIRST. Anything after the perps first swing is self defense . . which IS NOT A CRIME.

"Al" clarified his statement and I supported him for what he said/did. But if that hawkster little creep takes a swing, or throws something at your girlfriend (like that punk did to the ISU bandmember who ended up in the Emergency Room) . . THAT is ASSAULT. So now let me ask you a question . . if you are ASSAULTED (hit first) . . what are you going to do?? Let him continue to pummelt you until the Cops arrive? Or let the punk beat your girlfriend until the Cops or Security arrive?? You better nad up and forget who may hurt you or how this will look in court. Some of these punks will beat you senseless if you just stand there.

If that punk had the balls to come up to me and back his mouth up, the situation would have ended differently than it did. The fact of the matter, was that he was nothing more than a **** talking *****, and his own fanbase thought he was a tool.

Look - I don't doubt the stories told in this thread. Not one bit. But some of us just haven't had the same negative experience at the extremes that are being told in this thread.

It goes to prove 1 thing. It doesn't matter who you are, how much you have had to drink, or how you are acting.... If you are in the wrong place at the wrong time in Iowa City during the Iowa State vs. Iowa game then you can be assaulted or worse simply because you have an ISU hat or shirt on. By saying wrong place at the wrong time I mean anywhere within a 3 mile radius of Kinnick Stadium. You don't have to go looking for trouble up there.... it will most certainly find you when you are surrounded by classless hok fans.

Obviously you've never witnessed an SEC game, and every week is rivalry week in the SEC.

This doesn't happen all the time in the SEC. I have been to Alabama/Auburn, Alabama/Tennessee, Florida/Georgia and Arkansas/LSU and I have never seen the crap I have seen at Kinnick.

I once had a, what had to be, 10 year old say, "wrong colors *******" to me in front of his white trash Hawkeye parents. All they did was laugh. True story.

Perhaps teh proper semi pc response would be, "You better get used to wearing state issue orange little buddy!"

I havent been to IC since I was a Hawk fan (yes, I'm a convert) so can't add much about the environment. Good luck to everyone going, would be a fun trip!

Interesting tales in this thread. I guess since everything on the internet is true then they must be. :skeptical:

I was at the 2008 game. Went as a guest of my son-in-law (he's an ISU grad, too) who informed me that because the tickets were courtesy of his employer, I had to keep my mouth shut (he knows my disdain for the Hacks). Seats were on the 50, and I was surrounded by long-time Iowa groupees who taunted me the entire game. I managed to (more or less) keep quiet until one of our players went down with an injury and one of the idiots behind me started to cheer. That's when the gag order got lifted. That'll be my last trip to the Johnson County (human) landfill.

Wear your cardinal and gold proudly. But beware of the morons (they're easy to ID ... they wear black and gold) who throw stuff.

My brother has some horror stories from a trip he made which they couldn't even get his friend's car parked (that had ISU vanity plates) without some idiot throwing a beer bottle at the car. They also witnessed fans cussing at anyone in ISU gear including little kids and elderly people. That's just a sample of the mess they dealt with without even saying a word to any of the idiots they dealt with.

Basically like others said, keep your mouth shut and just keep moving if some idiot Hawk fan gets in your face and starts taking crap to you. Chances are if you react you are going to start an even bigger mess. We went 2 years ago and I didn't even have the RV parked Friday night before some idiot yelled at us but overall no major incidents. Just kept my mouth shut and the ones that bothered you eventually shut up and left you alone when they realized they weren't going to get a reaction from you.

If it were a situation where they were tailgating, that's when I'd break out my cell phone, take a pic of them, their vehicle to include the license plate, the bottle or whatever it was that damaged my vehicle, the damage to my vehicle, and go talk to my insurance agent and let my agent's lawyers handle it from there. Perhaps if you get lucky that d-bag's insurers drop them for intentionally costing them money.

walk with friends that are Iowa fans .... After the 'reception' my father and I had in 2004, we will NEVER go back ... all we were doing was walking down Olive Court to meet Iowa fans that are close friends ... we almost turned around and left.

Take most of the smack talk with a grain of salt, that is the fun part of the rivalry, but beware of flying objects of any kind coming from any direction if you are walking around.....

Obviously you have never worn Hawkeye colors to a clone football game. I have been in Ames for many games and have had beer thrown at me, spit at, been called a mother ******, told to go **** myself. All this with out one word from me. I have never seen any thing like this at Kinnick but have no doubt it happened because there are idiots in every fan base, including yours.
